Rear wheel nut loose.

Went to take off the back wheel today to change the tyre as it was getting worn and well squared off. I was getting the feeling that the back end was a bit dodgy. Anyway removed the wire locking clip and felt the nut move, I was able to take it off without tools Not exactly 140Nm then!

That happened to me too a mechanic that used his air tool rather than a torque wrench. Luckily, I settled the damage with the dealer because the damage was deeeep and costly.... I went out and bought a tire machine the very next week and have never looked back. It has paid for itself 3x over already. I'll never let anyone put a tire on for me ever again.

I take my wheels to the shop and let them fight the changer.

I do the dismounting and mounting of the wheels myself.

Had the same issue on my '99 last year. Ended up having to replace the rear wheel and axle (got a complete set on ebay and couldn't get the drive pins off the old one- they were quite worn). Repacked/replaced all the rear bearings while I was back there tearing it all down too. Was quite the experience, but glad I did it in the end. Now I check the torque on that nut every day I ride. Takes me 5 minutes to get it done, but the piece of mind is priceless to me.
