Sprint RS clutch cable

I apologize for another clutch cable thread. I got some good info from searching, but still have a question.

The parts reference shows you can use this Yamaha cable for a 2000 Sprint ST:

2000 ST - Yamaha part # 1UY3500-3102

Will that work on my 2000 RS with 1" risers? I found my clutch cable very frayed where it enters the clutch lever (you can't see it unless the clutch is pulled all the way in).

Thanks!

Matt

Can't help you there because while most raise their bars, I lower mine.

But you pose a good question in consideration of the riser height.

If you pulled it out of the parts reference, it works. I ordered one from my local Yamaha dealer some time back, and it was a vast improvement over my slightly frayed stock cable. I suspect that part of the reason for the improvement is that the Yamaha part does not have the 90º bend that the Triumph cable has.

As far as ease of installation, it's dead easy. Leave the old cable on, run the new cable along it, detach old and attach new at one end, do same at other end, pull out old cable, adjust new for ~1/8" play at lever.

(Also, double check that moving the bars from lock to lock doesn't activate the clutch, as PO's have been known to misroute cables from time to time. If the cable has been misrouted, the correct route is the one with the least bends and widest arcs possible.)

Cheers,
-Kit

After some more reading, I think the one I want is this one:

1UY-26335-00-00

I'm just going to take it off and go to the Yamaha dealer. He said he'd help me. I dont' want to wait over a week for the Triumph dealer to order it...

Ok, got the Yamaha 1UY-26335-00.

Didn't think I'd be able to get it on at first, as it's about 3 inches shorter than the stock Triumph cable and the reach at the lever end is a tad shorter, but I routed it different and managed to get the barrel ends into their slots. Then got it adjusted correctly, and it still has room for future adjustments. The Yamaha cable even has a rubber boot at the clutch end.

Works great!

Thumbs up Great post!!!

Thanks for the great post!!! It got me back on the road the next day instead of having to wait almost two weeks to get the part from Triumph because of the New Year’s holiday.

Plus I saved $20 going with Yamaha part # 1UY-26335-00-00 for my 2002 Sprint RS and it seems to be better constructed than the OEM part.
