Metzeler Roadtec Z6 C?

How many of you guys have replaced your rear tire with the Metzeler Roadtec Z6 "C" version (OEM for Yamaha FJR1300) per the UK Triumph Sprint ST manual? The UK owner's manual lists the standard Z6 for the front tire and the "C" version for the rear tire as an optional fitment to the Bridgestone BT020 NN.

Do you guys thinks this matters if you use the "C" version for the rear tire or the standard Z6? Also, I e-mailed the US Metzeler website and they recommended the standard Z6 for front tire and rear tire or the new Interact Z6 standard tire.

I've run the standard Z6 before and liked the tire. Funny you should bring this up since I'm buying a bike right now and the dealer was going to put a new Z6 on the rear. I'll have to read up on the "C" and see if I should go that route. Post a link if you have one.

link to UK Sprint ST owner's manual

I don't know if this helps, but here is the link to the UK Sprint ST owner's manual. If you look in the back, you will see the options for tire selection. According to the US Triumph customer service rep, these recommendations have all been testing on the Sprint ST by the engineers. I just looked up the "C" model and found out is was OEM for the FJR.

I couldn't find much differences between the "C" and standard Z6 in the Metzeler catalog. The "C" is a little heavier 14 lbs. to 12,7 lbs. for the standard. It is also used on the heavier BMW's.
Have you checked the Metzeler website fitment guide?

Yes. I checked the US site and they recommended the standard Z6. No mention of the "C" model.

A riding buddy has a BMW LT and a few months ago he said that he was told to go to bias ply on his next tire change from the dealer. I will need some tires in the next few 1000 miles and have not done any looking yet but will soon start on the hunt. Wanted to go with radials but may look into bias tires specs while looking.

The 2005 US manual lists the "B" designation for the rear...upon reading around, it looks like the B/C oem designation is for the heavier bikes. I hope I didn't just screw up by putting a standard Interact on the front and rear. Handling seems to be working fine for me...plus our bikes are super heavy up front, but they don't recommend the heavier OEM line for the front.

Anyone that's got the B/C Z6, let us know the max load rating numbers on it, please.

Nevermind....I found this doc on the Interacts:

http://www.metzelermoto.com/en_IT/br...20features.pdf

The load rating is the same on the C and non-C, but the C does have a bit more heft as previously noted. Perhaps a slightly thicker/longer wearing tread?

Drew you could be right.

There are more than one way to make a m/c tyre sticky.

For example Bridgestone race tyres of late have been heavier and work on a heavier carcass and lighter tread to get to heat up more quickly as opposed to Michelin whose race tyre design is lighter with more rubber.

I hope I have that right I was reading about this a few months ago as tyres have always been an interest of mine. (wearing them out!)

I just checked the Metzeler UK fitment guide and they recommend the "C" for the rear tire in both the Z6 and Z6 Interact.
