Non std front sprocket. Why?

Playing with the new ST 1050 and sussing out everything I had the fairing sides off etc. Came across a funny thing which ties in wuth the optimistically reading speedo. My front sprocket is an 18T rather than the standard 19T also the 18T thats fitted is a plain non cush type.
Wonder why someone dropped the gearing by 1 tooth. Anyone got any thoughts, and should I revert to std set up?

Many threads on the gearing of the Sprint Eyore. Do a search and you'll find plenty. The reason most people, including me, change the gearing is the stock gearing is too high and changing to an 18 is easy and makes the gearing "just right". YMMV.

"plain non cush type"

It's not really a cush drive per say, it’s just a bit of rubber glued to sprocket to cut down on chain noise. When I replaced my front and rear sprockets while replacing the chain I bought an aftermarket 19toother with no rubber and can't tell any difference in sound. I stuck with the 19t because for a tight twisty (15 to 20mph posted corners) second gear is the perfect ratio and I didn't want to change this.

I leave it for now see how you like it.

Check the rear sprocket also. I just went from 19/42 to 18/43 and what a difference in get up and go.

Thanks for the advice and info. Not having experienced the standard set up I have nothing to compare it to,however it felt fine to me and my only real complaint is the effect it seems to have on the speedo.

Eyore, the stock bike speedo is 10% high, while the odometer is right on.

The Triumphs are all like that, for some reason.

I have a Speedohealer since I run an 18T front sprocket, so now my speedometer is DOBA with my GPS, but my odometer reads low.

Most bikes are like that. Can you imagine the furore if a speedo read 10% low ? Well, officer.............
Cars are just the same. Every time I've been caught speeding the reading was lower than I expected

1 tooth on the front= 2 up on the rear. I went to a 18 front and went from 42 to 43 on the rear and she pulled like a freight train. Now I left the 43 on the rear and put the 19 back on the front to see how that is.

OP= "Non std front sprocket. Why?"

Glad your front sprocket is disease free.

If its red, itches, burns or has crystals on it, go see your doctor ASAP.
