secondairy air block off ?

So the bike is in the shop, I just got a call and they want to put a 2ndary air block off on the bike @ a cost of $70 to me. he told me that it just reduced the popping on decel. I like the popping and crackling..

Anyone know what is is talking about.. (first I have heard of this)

Something does not add up. You've been a member since Sept 06, and you have never heard of SAI block offs?

No, Not that I needed one with a after market pipe.. I like the popping and cracling of the IXIL pipe..

I have heard of them just never told I needed them.. bad wording on my part..

In that case, whoever told you that you needed one must have had one for sale.

I have disabled the SAI on mine with block off plates, but it was a matter of choice, not need.

Since your bike is in the shop and the tech thinks the decel burbles are excessive, you might want to ask him to check which tune is loaded? An aftermarket pipe with the stock tune will burble excessively. The TOR tune reduces the burbles to the normal level.

They may be looking for a way to make a few few extra bucks, or they might not be used to hearing the IXIL, being more accustomed to the TOR, and were concerned that you might think the burbles are excessive.

I can say that disabling the SAI on an aftermarket exhaust equipped bike will not diminish the burbles to any great extent. It would be difficult to determine any difference in the before and after sounds.
