I have an '04 RS in Phoenix, AZ. At a traffic light (106 degree weather) the temp gauge (in Fahrenheit) went up to 225!

While moving it will range from 189 to 218. The 225 seems a bit much... What is a typical temp range for these bikes (Celsius is fine, I'll convert)?

Thanx,

It get's hot here too. My fan ususlly cuts in when the temp guage is about half way. I've heard this can be adjusted if you have a Tune Boy fitted. Did your fan come on? When I move off temp drops to around 1/4 - 1/3 on the guage.

Mine also hates hot weather and slow traffic. Even at speed it's above 190 when the temp is 90 or better. It immediately heats up at a traffic light, even in moderate weather. Mine usually won't get above 215.
I kill mine at lights because I hate to see the really high numbers.

exactly the same behavior on my 03 ST. With 30degrees C at a traffic light the needle creeps up, in the middle I can hear a click and the fan starts to turn.... followed by scorching hot air directed to the right leg and higher :-D

I have never seen my temp gauge go above halfway. Don't recall offhand what temp that relates to.
This is even in totally bumper to bumper snail crawl that our Phoenix streets are known for.

And I haven't yet redone the coolant. Really need to :-D

my RS regularly bounces off 220 degrees while in traffic.

drops to around 190 on the highway.

seems quite normal as this is the same temperature range that auto engines run at.

*****, thought it was just my 02 Sprint ST!
To keep temps down, I split lanes. That isn't legal here, so would like a more permanent fix to this problem. Any fixes?

Maybe it's just me, but part of the reason I bought a water-cooled motor was because it regulated its temperature better than an air-cooled motor (at one time I was considering a multistrada).

I've been in stop and go traffic during my commutes more times than I want to admit, and although my Sprint ST gets hot, it doesn't overheat and it keeps running.

If someone wants to keep the temperature at a certain level, about the only thing one could probably do is change the sensor/computer or whatever reads the temperature of the engine and triggers the switch that turns the fan on.

Personally, I think Triumph designed these bikes to handle the hot temps that occur when bike idles a lot in stop and go traffic. I would sure hope they did some sort of stress test on these motors. Otherwise, I think I'd seen some postings about some motors getting toasted due to the heat.

FWIW

Tom
