I'd like to know more about the history of Triumph -- from the very beginning all the way up to the present. Are there any books on this out there?

I know there are a few out there, I spotted them the last time I was at Barnes/Noble. Could'nt tell you the author/publisher, but they do exist.

You might try a search on Bentley Press and Motorbooks, two biggies for history of automotive subjects. Probably the best I'd suggest is good ol' Amazon.com and search for Triumph motorcycles. If there is anything in print, they will have or can find it for you and at a discount. Hell, they even have used at a killer discount!

I had them do a search for a very rare volume Edgar Allen Poe for me and they found 3 copies...all in the hands of private collectors. Wayyyyyyyy too pricy for me, but the point is.....they found them!!!

Considering the vast range of products they carry, the incredible service and great prices, they have just about anything under the sun nowdays with the exception of food and clothing, and that's probably forthcoming??

Here's wishing good ridin' and good readin'.

Addendum: A good example of the deals available at Amazon.com is: I just recieved both the new books by Nick Ienatsch "Sport Riding Techniques" and Lee Parks "Total Contro-High Performance Riding Techniques". Both are only available through the publishers or through their own mail order desk at $24.95 ea plus the $6.95 and $7.95 for ship/handling charges. At Amazon they are selling the two together as a package with NO shipping/handling charges $32.00 That's half price!!!!

I can't advise you on a book to read, but a few weeks ago I wanted to know a little about Triumph history so I did a quick web search. I found this website with a good overview:

The History of Triumph Motorcycles Clicky

It found it interesting that Triumph has been producing motorcycles longer than the Motor Company (H-D) and that, contrary to popular belief, there is not a period when Triumph motorcycles were not produced.

Terry, Good question. Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you. I remember reading somewhere that John Bloor kept the marque alive by having bikes produced in small numbers while the new models were being engineered. But... according to Ian Chadwick, Racing Spares only produced Bonnies until 1988. Maybe some of those were registered as 1989 models? Any of you Triumph history buffs know if any 1989 Triumph models were sold?
