I recently put a thread on the vfr forum, the basics were asking for advice / pitfalls/ ownership comments of the vfr vtech.
I had expressed interest in 3 bikes, ST, vfr and blackbird as my new bike.
I was shot down in flames when i mentioned the ST ! they all hated it as it had knocked the vfr's crown off. the majority of comments were a tad rude and very self opinionated and the words 'loyal to honda' summed it up.
To be honest i felt quite unwelcom and it seemed that saying 'St sprint' was as good as swearing at the pope.
I have posted another thread since, it basically reads i bought the St the vfr is poo.
Suprisingly i have had a few positive replies, maybe the worm has turned?

I would think it is very difficult to generalize the likes and dislikes of an entire model (VFR) riding population based on the comments of a few members. For instance even though I find myself prejudiced against Harley riders, I’ve met a few, and realize that not all are the motorcycling morons that I profess they are. Most perhaps are, but not all. In the immortal words of the crack cocaine addict Rodney King on the eve of yet another set of riots in the Watts area of Los Angeles “… can’t we all just get along?”. BTW I like VFRs… sshhh, don’t tell anyone.

I got rid of my 02 VFR and got the New ST. I loved my VFR, but I heard the ST is what the VFR should be.
The only bad part about the VFR is the power, and the VTEC was fine, but you had no low end, power came after you hit the VTEC.
I still would own one though... if I had the money for both.

Their just jealous! , although i admit as well some of the new VFR's i do like, i've ridden an older VFR and your right no low down power, something that our Sprints excell at as well as the torque that i love sooo much.
How do you like your SV1000? always been partial to them, looks deadly and heard its a notorious torque monster as well.

The Sv was a good ride, just a bit harsh on the comfort side of things. Its a very quick underrated bike and overlooked by many until one passes you on a twisty b road.
The main stigma is its the old TL1000 engine, which it isnt really. a lot of the internal components are completely different. the bike press expected an improved Tl but they got a better but lower powered version. Thats not enough for some magazine writers so its been a little tarnished.
A standard Sv will have a dyno proven 69ftilbs of torque. and the torque curve is fat and flat from 4,000rpm to about 8,000 so its a doddle to ride smooth and quick on twisty stuff. They average about 110bhp at the wheel and later models have about 120 bhp. With simple mods they can perform suprisingly well agaist double the cost bikes.
You can pick up a brand new Sv1000sk3 for £4,000 ( old stock but still new) and that is a bargain.
If you are interested try 'SV1000.zyns.com' and you will see there is a following on this bike.
Well we went completely off topic here.............. :hammer:

I came very close to buying a VFR before I found my Sprint RS. The big difference to me was that the VFR felt big and clumsy and the RS just fit me perfectly.
I have heard a lot of folks saying that they preferred the VFR without the addition of VTEC. The magazines also seem to be unified that the VFR has been refined to the point that it is just bloody boring.
I think they're great bikes, but the Sprint was just the one that made my heart pound -- course it was almost half the price too. :-D

The funny thing about this is all the mags seem to say that about all Hondas sports/ tourers and cruisers.
I was in New Zealand for a couple of years and the SV1000 is very cheap and very popular down there.
Never ridden one myself but I have had a few rides on the Honda VTR Firestorm.......... not bad. But I'd rather have my ST Triple Treat!!!! :-D
