Poor mileage
955i 2000 RS
That being said, everyone knows these things get super fuel economy. I have babied it before the sprocket change and got 67 mpg! But that was an experiment and my actual riding is yielding me 42-45 mpg back and forth to work. I used to get 50-55mpg. What is happening? BTW this drop happened before the sprocket changes.
New plugs?
New air filter?
Can someone enlighten me here?
Thanks

Well don't feel too bad, my Ducati only got 65 miles on a tank before the fuel light came on. But that was at the track, which brings me to the point: are you sure you're riding habits haven't changed since installing the new gearing? It's pretty hard NOT to be into the throttle a bit more with lower gearing
Other than that, if you don't notice obvious signs of leaking fuel or unburnt fuel in the exhaust, does the bike feel any slower? That might indicate dragging brakes or poor state of tune. If none of the above, I'd probably change out the plugs and air filter. At the very least, that will give you an opportunity to read the plugs and inspect associated equipment such as wires, intake ducting, etc. My intake duct was obstructed about 50% as-delivered. Heck, you might even find a squirrel's nest in your air box

Just completed a full service on my '08 with 15K miles on it since March. Valves were perfect, flushed coolant and brake fluid, and changed the air filter, which, BTW, was filthy. All but clogged with tree and grass pollen and some nasty stuff from the recently paved roads I had been riding on. Interestingly enough, the bike, 1K miles ago, returned some of the best fuel consumption figures I have seen from it with one tank at >50 m/US gallon and most in the 48-49 range. I was going a bit slow (70-75 mph) on that exceptional tank, the rest at 80-85.
I'm off for a long haul trip, leaving this afternoon. It'll be interesting to see if mileage improves. Probably not by much as these pleated paper air filters have a huge surface area.

Agreed
I would have to agree with these gents. Go get yourself a nice tuneup and go from there. Since buying my 2000 RS, I have been getting anywhere from 50-57mpg with a couple canyon rides in good ol' Colorado and some rides up to WY that would make the LEO's take notes. It might be that my size is not quite proportionate to the bike(5'8" & 150lbs) that I am getting this great mileage. So, start off with that and update us after.

Are you serious? I have never had that kind of mileage on my '08 Sprint ST. I am consistently in the 30 mpg range. Most of my riding is around town which probably explains the difference.

Around town I get mid to upper 30 MPGs. On the highway doing 75 MPH, it'll get 50 MPG, and that's with the 18 tooth front sprocket as well!
