sprint st 1050 flat battery/ heated grip gripe?!

Hi,
just been out to my sprint and it appears the battery is flat as a pancake - just a couple of questions: battery is 3 years old, but bike up until recently was used rarely - could the battery be knackered and how could i tell? i have heated grips - factory fitted left on last night, i assumed the ignition also cut the power to these -is that the case? and lastly is there a light on the factory heated grip switch?
cheers

1) battery is 3 years old, but bike up until recently was used rarely - could the battery be knackered and how could i tell?

The battery could easily be shot. 3 years old with little use is a recepie for a sulfated battery.

Put it on a charger for a bit and see if it starts behaving as it should.
Or...
Charge it and then have an auto parts store load test it.
Or...
Just replace it.

2) i have heated grips - factory fitted left on last night, i assumed the ignition also cut the power to these -is that the case?

The grip kit features a series relay thet drops out when the ignition is switched off. The grip loose power when the switch is off... unless the relay is stuck.

3) and lastly is there a light on the factory heated grip switch?

No.
