Hi, this is my first thread and this site seems to cover almost everything.
I have just sold my Suzuki Sv1000s to a forum member on 'SV1000.zyns.com' forum having fell for the new St sprint.
I had toured the Sv twice and realised it was more suited to fun on twisty b roads rather than long distance fun. i took it to scotland and wsb in assen last year but the sv's seat is like a razor.......other than that the sv is a crackin bike for the money and is well underated. On the scotland trip it showed up more expensive bikes on scotlands crackin roads.......But compared to the ST the SV feels like a very fast tractor!!
I spotted the St in november last year at the NEC show and wanted one. i was a little cautious and waited for the verdict from the UK's bike media, Every Uk magazine has raved over the St so i decided to book a demo rideto see for myself. 1st dealer would only let me have it for 30 mins which was useless as it takes that time just to get used to switching from a V2 to a triple. I then went to woods of abergele who loaned me a demo ST for a full afternoon... that clinched the deal! So i ordered a Silver abs model as the non abs was sold out til september. i struck a deal as initially they had promised me a cancelled order on a non abs model but somehow i didnt end up with it. I told them i wanted the panniers and asked for a deal, So the bike was £8599 with luggage (otr) with all the accessories fitted free of charge, I also bought the triumph / datatool3 alarm and triumph heated grips and a touring scotoiler to look after the chain.
All fitted i wont get any change from £9100. But who cares..... could of been worse i could of bought vtech vfr!

I hope to collect the bike in the next 2 weeks and have another trip to scotland planned for august and september so i can stretch the St's legs............

Cheers guys........ after 95 views and no replies i was feeling a little ignored!
Well this will be my first triumph, I have had a thing for big Vtwins for a few years and found them a doddle to ride quick on the twisties. the St i had the demo on i rode the same roads on and found it equally as quick but far smoother and very comfy at the same time.

I am currently on sick leave having just had knee surgery so im bikeless till the end of the month....... im getting bored!

My last trip away on the Sv almost crippled me and i couldnt walk properly for days after a nightmare 11 hour ride home in the worst weather and worst traffic ive ever seen.......so i decided i needed something with more comfort ( and style !) and the St won.

The only other triumph i have ridden was a 955i which was not in the best of shape as it was an ex tt bike and had been used by its current owner for stunting.

Hopefully my new ST will provide me with miles and miles of fun.

ST,
my friend it is a choice I am quite sure you will not regret. I have to keep pinching myself and asking how come this thing is so easy to ride!

All the best with your recovery and enjoy exploring your triple. :chug:

Cheers,
DaveM

Welcome aboard and congratulations. I'm surprised to hear someone say the SV may out perform the ST in the twisties. The only two bikes that I couldn't keep up with in the twisties were a ZX10R (2004) and a CBR600R and that was because they were better riders than I. I'll admit the ST is heavy (Top Heavy) preventing us smaller riders from flicking it through the twisties as quickly as other bikes, but its ridability, low end grunt and willingness to be riddin hard, leaves me confident and pleasantly impressed with this being both a Toruing and a Sport Bike.

The only advantage the SV has over the St is engine braking and a slipper clutch which helps on the tight twisties, i found it easier to ride quick without the need for any brakes, as rolling off the gas on the sv is like applying the brakes. So in my opinion it was easy to ride quick but i dont recall saying the Sv was quicker than the ST !.
I too found the St top heavy particularly at v'low speed when doing u-turns etc but once on the move it rode like it was on rails and the front end feels so planted it should have roots !.
Being a large guy at 6'4" and 210lbs i dont have any problems chucking it about !

Yes, the bike is kinda top heavy, especially with a full thank-o-gas. I have practiced slow speed turns quite a lot since I bought the bike, and have done a couple bike courses (MSF ERC, L.P. Total Control). I have learned the sweet spot of the bikes center of gravity, and now use that top-heaviness to toss it into corners or turns. It is much more enjoyable to let the bike (and gravity) to do all the hard work!

Congrats on your (soon to be) new ride! :-D

ST,
I am 5'10 and 96 kilos, I have no problem throwing the ST around either. My build is all upper body!

But it is definitely top heavy at low manouvering speeds and if you are all body and short in the leg department, you need to excersise care at low speed especially if the deck is loose stones. when coming to a stop or letting the wiffey get on and off! :-D

Cheers,
DaveM
