Can the guys with fender eliminators help me for a sec?

Hi guys,
I think I would like to try a fender eliminator. Tell me if you think this set up would be good:

R&G fender eliminator
Clear alternative intergrated turn signal/brake light

I think Oldndumb has that on his bike(from the pics I searched).

I was reading some thread about the powerbronze kit has a weak brake light and I would like to keep the old/bigger brake light look.

What do you all think?

Thanks in advance

Well Triumphite,

Not only that, but the Powerbronze is twice the cost of the R and G Racing Tail Tidy. If you don't want to make your own using the stock bracket, the R and G is a pretty good option. It does allow the stock taillight or the Clear Alternative.

That's what I read on one of the earlier posts. Do you have one(R&G), or did you make your own?

That's What I Have

triumphite:

I have the set up you've described: R&G Tail Tidy and the Clear Alternatives Light.

Check my pics. If you're interested, I'll describe what I used to clean up the wires.

Hey Dale,

Great pics! I see the black loom for the wires. Is the Clear Alternative a whole unit, or do you have to take apart the OEM one and fit the lightining into it?

Also, was it it pretty straigt forward to do the swap? Wiring and all?

That' exactly what I'm looking for. Getting rid of the turnsignals. Really clean look. Is the Clear Alternantive bright?

Thanks

Aaron

You know I just happen to be going through this conversion right now. I got an older model R&G tail tidy and a Clear Alternatives integrated tail light. Everything is a perfect fit (though the main plug fixture needed a little tap to get through the a whole to connect to the factory plug (from the bike). I ended up taking off the sway bars as well when removing the original rear-fender but that was just a preferrence of mine. I do need to get a "project box" from Radio shack and plan to use the holes where the turn signals would have been mounted to hold it in place.

The integrated taillight lights up beautifully - as I was concerned on whether you would be able to see it. I do have to connect one of the resistors to the the right-side turnsignal wire because it blinks too fast for my liking. This is weird to me because the left one blinks just right. And the yellow LED's are very visible.

I could have gotten away with the whole assembly though just by using the factory bracket that is inside of the fender assembly. You wil see it after you take it apart. You will have to mod it a little to hold your licence plate but that can easily be achieved by cutting some tin and drilling some wholes in it.

The use of resistors to regulate the blink rate is not the preferred method. An LED solid state relay is better.

Also, if you have two different blink rates with nothing installed to regulate them, something is wrong? They should be the same. A cal to CA might be in order.

I thought Clear Alt. supplied all necessary parts?

They do. They provided both of the resistors (one for the left and one for the right) and the instructions were included on how to use them if it was necessary.

I called them (clear alternatives) and they said that it is not unusal for only one side to be blinking faster. They asked if both my front turn signals were operating (not blown) and I confirmed that with them. The suggested that I install the resistor(s). I'm going to give it a try but it does seem odd that only one side blinks faster than the other.

I think the dude on the other end was a douche personally. So much for customer service.
