Newbie Questions

I am not YET a Sprint owner, but plan to be very soon. To that end, I have a few questions which I was unable to get answered at the local shop:

1. Any rumors on 2010 changes? That is really the only reason I haven't yet purchased- I don't want to second guess myself if they make big changes in 3 months.

2. A local dealer has promised to make me a very good deal to get an '09 out of his inventory. What is the typical dealer cost/markup on the sticker of a Triumph? I have never purchased a NEW motorcycle, so I don't know what to expect.

Now a few other general use questions:
3. Will a standard laptop computer fit in the side bags(13" by 10")? I know there are waterproof issues with the bags, I am just wondering whether I will be able to get rid of my current commuter bag when I want to bring work home.

4. Can you provide any details on the instrumentation- what is offered in terms of fuel monitoring, digital gauges, etc. I can see the two main analog gauges, but don't know any more than that. Obviously, I have not done a test ride (can't get one around here). Sadly, I haven't even heard the 3-cylinder run, yet.

Thanks for the responses to these simple questions. I have been shopping & trolling this website for almost a year, and am now close enough to buying to join y'all.

John, welcome from NZ - lets hope you're up and running soon.

1. 2010 changes? - Triumph keeps these fairly quiet until the last minute. But theres plenty of dreaming going on - check out this thread: http://www.triumphrat.net/sprint-for...sprint-st.html

2. where do you live? - that would help to answer the price question.

3. dont know - someone else will though

4. you have a clock, 2 trip meters, engine hours, max speed, fuel consumption instantaneous and average, distance to empty.

When you say you havent heard one - do you mean in the flesh?
Check out youtube 'triumph sprint' there is plenty there to whet your apetite.

Have you done much riding?

Grant

You said bags!

Some folks hate when panniers are called bags

Thanks for the info. I just found the owners manual on the triumph web site (how did I miss that on all my other visits?!?), and that answered the questions on the instrument cluster.

As far as riding experience, this will be my second motorcycle. I have put 20k miles on a used '07 Yamaha FZ6 over the past 2 years. It has been a fun bike, and great for learning, but I want something bigger but still sporty. Several friends with FJRs tried to talk me into one of those, but that torque monster is just too big & heavy for me. The bigger BMWs are out too, for the same reasons, plus the cost! This obsession started when I had some dead time at an out of state biycle race about a year ago, stopped by a Triumph dealer, and was immediately struck by the sprint. Since then, I have researched & checked out every other bike, but keep coming back to the sprint.

Now is it true that the blue sprints are faster? Because for the FZ6's, everyone knows the red ones are better...

Thanks for the correction. I'm in Texas... worse things can happen here if you ask the wrong rider about his panniers!

Welcome aboard

Hi and welcome JohnTex

Don and I ask all our new folks to please take a few minutes to read our forum stickies and get to know how we operate here

On the colour question it is true that both Caspian Blue and tornado red are the fastest colours in the Triumph Triple range.

Yes as a matter of fact I do own those colours but that is just a lucky coincidence :

It will help other members asnwer you if you can add your country of residence into your signiature.

cheers
DaveM
