Gearing Change

I have been convinced to change my gearing =probably to 18/45. Firstly which sprockets are the ones to buy and where from. Secondly will I also need a new chain.

Any info on this topic would be great.

Yes unfortunately it's true that you'll need a longer chain to go 18/45. But it's soooo worth it! 18T was nice, but 18/45 was transformational. Who cares if the bike will "only" do 145mph Isn't it all about getting there?

Elevens, have you taken off from a standstill in second gear with the new gearing? If so how does it compare with taking off in first with the stock gearing?

Just the 18 toother up front is fine.

Then you don't need to dick around with a chain.

I wouldn't mind a few other opinions on this actually- does everyone agree with Dave on this. That would be a big saving

Did that once - by mistake It can be done, but I would not choose to do it. First gear is much easier with the gearing change, there is very little clutch slipping required.

Yes the chain is a pain But IMO it's worth it.

My chain bit the dust at 17,000 miles but my sprockets looked perfect, so I changed all of it out and went with 18 front and kept 43 on the back. Now she pulls just fine from a light. 2 sprockets (E.K.) and chain (DID X Ring Gold). pretty reasonably priced for all new stuff I guess. Very pleased that I dropped a tooth up front.
Unfortunately I did not have the rivet tool so I just beat the **** outta the pins while vice-grip was holding plates together. Hasnt fallen off yet after 300 miles. But hey, find someone who has the rivet tool as a loaner. It costs over a hundred bucks and surely someone has one they would let you rent or borrow.
