In the picture of the gel seat, in the accessories section of the Triumph website, It would appear that it is held down with a latch at the back. Does anyone know if this is so? I can't help but think the stock seat will rip when removing the two hold down screws.

Thanks
Hylton

Those two screws at the back are a pain. The "not-to-be-named" dealer in Plano, TX tore my seat when they used an electric screw-driver to take off my seat. I didn't notice till the next day and when I went back they denied doing it. Every time I go there I say that it will be the last.

Does anyone know if the gel seat attaches differently? Great question. :???:

The gel seat attaches the same way, two screws in the back and the hook at the center. One suggestion I heard is to put your allen wrench in a tube of some sort, and then unscrew it. The tube is so that you don't scratch the paint or tear the seat.

That's using the loaf for something other than a place to put a helmet.

Ditto on the 05' ST seat attachment. It is lousy. You would think an engineering team that could put together an entire bike as great as the 05' ST would not fall on their face at somthing as simple as fastening the ******ned seat on. Each time I try to put it on or take it off I want throttle the chief engineer who authorized this design. IT SUCKS! I am also afraid of tearing or marring the seat covering not to mention that those cheap**** speed clips won't stay put so even getting the screws started can be a 15 minute cussin' fit.

Even my 21 year old R65LS has a locking, if one wants to, seat latch with a push button to open it. The VTR has one as well. Even though there is no under seat storage, the lack of ease getting the seat off and back on for access to the battery away from home, at night, in the rain, freezing cold is my concern. The battery should be easy to access. Why did they go through the trouble of putting one on the preproduction model and retro-engineer a flippin mind screw?

I've had it with those two screws, also, so I did the "unthinkable" and made a small cut in the seat. The cut allowed me to eliminate the two screws and replace them with a single bolt, formerly used to secure the seat on a Triumph Speedmaster.

On my early production '05 there are two threaded taps between the two seat screw taps so I didn't have to do a thing but take a deep breath and cut the hole. It actually looks fine.

Look at photo #11 in my album.

Boy thats a drastic move. Is the bolt shouldered so it pinches the seat base to the frame?

The bolt probably needs a spacer to provide the "shoulder" you suggested but I haven't done it yet. Acutally the bolt I'm using from the Speedmaster is about 1/2" too short to accomodate a spacer and thus reduce the "pinching" on the seat cushion.

Looks like it uses a different methed than mine two (broken now) screw setup.

And what is the holes in the side of the stick seat for?
