Got my new '05 Sprint ST. Repaced by RS Beemer. Waxes it in every way and love it! I am in Arizona and whoa, this thing is hot. Cooks my right thigh, particularly in traffic. At speed not too bad, but still much hotter thant he Beemer or the VFR I had before. Any comments on the heat output or solutions?

I've noticed the heat but it isn't near as bad as my old Honda ST1300.

I have the offroad pipe which gets rid of the cat converter and may help mine run cooler.

Hey, you live in a desert! Get used to it!
All kidding aside, I don't think there is any way around it. My '99 gets pretty toasty sitting at a stop light, or going the speed limit....... Have heard of somebody putting in a mesh type thing in cutouts in the bottom-most fairing for more airflow.
I wear mesh Joe Rockets over shorts, so there's not much between me and the exhaust pipes. I just take it as part of the charm of motorcycling!
What part of the valley do you live in? I'm between MetroCenter and Arrowhead. Haven't seen any '05s yet on the street. Did you get it from P.I.M.?

Best of luck with your new ride. Welcome to the TR gang. :-D

Hey, check out this thread:
Thread linky

DJR has a suggestion of going to a "race" can that deletes the catalytic converter. Sounds intriguing.

Dragon Dan, I live in Chandler about 3 miles SE of the 101. I also think the "offroad" exhaust makes sense, a lot of heat is generated at the cat. Anyway, it is the only niggle I have and it is not a big deal at all.

I rode one yesterday and commented on this to the dealer. His response was as stated above. Fitting the offroad can removes the CAT and reduces heat output a lot.

The right calf coked in summer in stop and go traffic is pretty common for most of the ST line. It's also due to the way the airflow exits the cowling from the rad. and engine.

Same Don,
my 04 gets my leg pretty warm in the heavy traffic too.

I don't care, it's a minor to a great bike but maybe the new 05 is hotter with the pipes up under the old seat.
