Got an 00 sprint st that when hitting it in a high gear and rpms below 4000 tends to slip a little. Just a nuisance at this point but want and will possibly need to fix before this season is over. Mostly interested in what options I have (i.e. aftermarket clutch availability, if so is it worth it over stock replacment) and estimated cost. Also want to know how difficult or simple this would be to do myself. I dont want to start taking it apart and have the clutch assmbly fly apart like cracking a watch case. I usually stay away from taking things apart where springs are involved but just wanted to hear from anybody who has done this before and if the would do it again or just take to the dealer. One last thing is there any special tools I will need that arent in the tool kit or if there are what do they look like so I can verify they are in my tool kit. Thanks!

Barnett makes clutch plates for us I think. List is really confusing to use! I can't tell if the listing is for 8 disks. 6 plates. or just two! Anyway, here is the link, maybe you can make some sense of it! I figured when that day came I would just call them!

Mine started doing this and I adjusted the clutch cable and it quit, that was about 2,000 miles ago. I know that I will have to replace it soon, but hopefully it will last until the fall.

STLaKid... Took your advice and got the barnett clutch. Was $100 cheaper than stock replacement!! Was $152 and some change + tax. I installed it last week 4 days ago to be exact. I have about 500 miles on it so far and very happy. Simple install 1 hour but would be 30 minutes if I had to do it again. It consisted of 5 new springs, 9 friction plates and 8 smooth pressure plates. Only having a small issue and that is that I have a bit of trouble finding neutral when stopped. If I go up to 2nd and down into nuetral its easier or if I hit neutral as I am coming to a stop it doesnt happen very often but stopped is a bit of difficulty. Also took a little getting used to the very strict play area between open and closed. Other than that works awesome and I saved $100!!

Glad to here it all worked out so well. Which model of plate did you install? The Kevlar, or the carbon fibre version? From the listing the 'M' series is only available for a few Harley's, Ducati's and Yamaha's, probably all dry clutches.

My best guess is that they were the K or Kevlar friction plates. I say this because the part number was HPK-40K. They came in generic bags with a upc sticker that said HPK-40K above the bar code. The bag itself just said Barnett Performance Products. I found out that the difference between a wet and dry clutch is that one is exposed to engine oil the other is not. I always thought a dry clutch was pulled by a cable and a wet clutch was by hydraulic line. Now we all know!
