GPS Wiring - Where is it??

Hi all,

I have a 2008 Sprint ST and have just bought a sat nav to go with it, the one ive bought is a tomtom rider. I cant fault the sat nav, but the battery only lasts around 5 hours. Now Id obviously like to wire it into my bike as Im off touring next week.

On looking at the fuse box, fuse No. 10 is for GPS with a rating of 2 amps with wires coming from it and disappearing into the wiring loom. Ive spoke to my local triumph garage and they have told me that my year/model bike has the sat nav wiring wired into the loom for easy installation of a sat nav and have told me that I should find the wires somewhere near the headstock/under the tank.

Does anyone know where I will find this wiring?? I cant find it anywhere!

Stand at the front of the bike, facing the headlight.
Now squat down so that you can see under the headlight/fairing.
you`ll see where the upper and lower fairings meet, directly behind the lip of the joint on your left, you`ll find the GPS "econoseal" 2 wire power connector with blanking cap in place see HERE and HERE its a PIA to get out, but be patient. IF your going to use the GPS connector I suggest you order the adaptor cable see HERE for the 1/2 price OEM cheaper alternative which is actually for the Tiger.
However, the GPS plug is a fused unswitched live which is why I installed a 10amp toggle switch with LED idiot light HERE in the infill, just under the LHS clocks to switch it on/off

BTW, if you look on the opposite side under the fairing from the GPS connector you will find the 3 pin heated grips/accessory plug

where in the world are you?

you mean the 1 with the flip up cover?
thats the hella/BMW plug socket, also know as a powerlet plug, ( do a search, or google it) its used for powering various accessories & chargers, such as heated vest, cell phone etc etc. they are a better standard than say a cigar lighter socket in a car.
depending upon your location, these can be sourced from various outlets .... marine, john deere, or online at powerlet. I get mine from my local truckstop for £1-£3 each depending upon the configuration

John - I am also in Hants, and have the GPS connector all wired in - if you get stuck, let me know and you can have a look at mine sometime if that helps.

Anyone know the volatage/amps of the gps plug? I'm planning to use it to power my gps but am not sure if it is 5v that I can wire directly to or 12v that I'll need to step down. Last thing I want to do is fry the little sucker.
