I just recently had my 30000km service. Prior to service bike was fine. During service fork oil was replaced (new forks at 10000kms) and bottom steering bearing replaced due to minor corrosion in race. Initially after service I noticed a knock and shudder when braking. Back to dealer who fixed knock by tightening up steering head. Shudder still evident when braking. It has now had front discs changed and new brake pads put in to no avail. Dealer has not charged me any extra for this so-far but it has not solved a problem that did not exist before the service. He does not know what else to try. Does anyone have any ideas? if I could point them in the right direction it might get fixed, but I get the impression they have too much else to do. Makes me wish I could do my own servicing, then I couldn't blame anyone else for problems like this.
I don't expect something for nothing, just a job done properly.
Rant over. Any help appreciated.

Front bearings? Tire?

Have someone weight the back end down and see if there is any play in the forks or wheel. This is an area that is often mis-adjusted.

Just looking through all the old posts and I think I have a similar problem with my 99' ST. Only thing is, I olny get a shudder through the bars when slowing through 90kms/h.
The bike only has 15k kms on it and I've just put a new set of Pilot Powers on it.
Anymore ideas with this one??

cheers

Dan

Just reread this. Aussie_955_ST, Since you just had the tires replaced, you might want to have them check the balance. A vibration at a certain rotational speed sounds like a balance problem to me.
Just a thought,

Don

I had the same problem on my 05S3 when the dealer replaced the rear tyre. The presure was down by only 4 psi.

Just changing tire on front and going to check rotors for runout when I found a rusty bearing on right side. 14K on bike. Never been to a car wash but have ridden in rain often.

(See thread on front wheel berings.)

Might be worth checking bearings.

Haven't ridden for 4wks due to back trouble. I was thinking the problem might be due to the dealer replacing the fork oil with a heavier weight (on their own inititive) I might get it changed back to stock (by someone else). I am quite heavy and think this might put too much pressure on the fork seals under brakes with the heavier oil. Re the brake calipers etc. - pads and discs have been changed to try and sort the problem with no effect so I think they will be adjusted properly, but will get them checked as well. I will also get the bearings checked. All extra expense on a bike which was running perfectly prior to service. Maybe when sales drop off a bit, the dealer will take the customer service side a bit more seriously.

Shouldn't be the fork oil. I have 15wt. in mine and I love it. The only way it might be that is if they put in 50wt. and left no air gap.

I bet it's something else. These disks are floaters. Are they free to move slightly from side to side?

Hit the buttons with brake clean.
