Smile Clutch Problem on 2009 Sprint ST w/ABS

I have 2000 kms on my new Sprint and just had it in for it's first service. Best bike I've ever owned.

The clutch makes shifting very difficult. Can't get it into N when stopped, won't let me downshift smoothly and it often misses shifts into the higher gears.

The dealer took out the clutch plate, soaked it in oil overnight??? and reinstalled it. The problem is still there.

Anyone have a similar issue?

What did you do to correct the problem?

Barry

Second post on the same issue this week.

Scroll back a bit and you'll find it.

Neutral can be elusive with the bike stopped. Try going for it with the bike still rolling a little although that violates a safety principle of mine.

I use a technique similar to what I use on BMW's to shift mine and have to say that my '08 transmission shifts like butter. I won't rehash it here as I went into quite a bit of detail in the other post. These bikes seem to have a little issue with getting the clutch to properly release. There are a number of modifications a clever tuner can/could do to improve this but they are well beyond the scope of backyard repair.

Things may well improve on their own with more running.time. You will also have adapted your technique by then, making the issue moot.

Couple of posts in the S3 forum on this as well. All on 09's. I checked all the Triumphs bulletins and found nothing.

They found some black goop on the plates so if you have had them already take them apart and soak them then it should be good. They do take a bit to break in and hopefully your dealer used mineral oil to break in. Next oil change go to semi then third oil change go full synthetic.
