Neutral issues
So now that the bike is done, finally, and I am enjoying it with some fantastic weather this past week I've done at least 3 hrs every day last week. Today was the first day I couldn't ride, bad weather but I need to study hardcore so bad weather till my test on wednesday is ok.
On with my question, so now the major work is done I'm on to the fine details. The first thing to trace down is my touchy neutral switch. What is happening is for some reason it is very touchy so when I start the bike and leave it on the side stand to warm up when I mount and put the stand up it cuts out. VERY annoying. I see the neutral light flicker on and off when this occurs. Also when i put it in neutral while riding I can see the light flicker on and off.
I am curious if there is a way to fix this problem with out tearing into the tranny and doing major work, which I'm not doing. Basically can I adjust the switch and where is it located.
I know the cause of the problem may have a lot to do with slamming the bike into the ground at 75mph then hitting a fire hydrant as it never did this prior to the accident.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First think i'd look at as culprit

haha, it was a fun experience though.
Either way I know the source of the problem but I'm not sure what switch is causing the problem or how to fix it and that is the issue.

I saw this yesterday and thought surely someone would have offered some advice by now?
I don't have a 955 to look at but I don't think you have a major problem so long as you don't mind tracing down shorts, because I think that is all that is wrong with your bike.
If you look around the front sprocket cover or the shift input shaft you should be able to locate the switch. It will have one wire connected to it. Disconnect the wire, put the bike in neutral and turn the ignition switch on. The neutral light should not come on. If it does, the wire is shorted somewhere between the switch and the inst cluster/ecu. This puts you into wire wringing mode.
If you want to just check the switch there are a couple tests. Check the switch first by running continuity with the bike in neutral. The reading sb zero Ohms. Put the bike in gear and their sb no continuity. If the switch fails either test, you may as well replace it.
Maybe a qualified electrician can add to this because I'm a one wire electrician, and can barely keep the smoke from leaking out of the wires.

I would think in this instance unlikey to be a short OnD & redM -
Reason being that what it appears is that when the sidestand is raised it thinks it's gear i.e. neutral switch not made (or open)
So - either has a bad ground to the common side of the switch (unlikely - via the motor), a bad switch itself or a bad connection anywhere along the way between the switch & beyond
Note however that since both the engine is dying AND the light is going out, the problem most likely lies down at the switch end of things - either the wire/connector or the switch itself
(because signal goes to both ECM - kills bike - and neutral light - indicator only)
Presumably it does not want to restart with the side-stand up, so in that mode (with fault) does your neutral light come back on as you 'stir' the gear shift pedal? If it does, this may be more indicative of the switch itself as opposed to wiring.
Check out the wire/connector however as it exits the switch down in front of the sprocket cover, above the side stand & look for anything untoward.
p.s. this test will eliminate the wiring potentially having an 'open' - get a piece of wire and stick one end in the connector plug and the other to an engine ground point
Neutral light should be now on, regardless of whether in gear or not - if this stays consistent, then problem definitely with the switch.
If not, then go chase the wiring further up the loom.

There, now you got some good electrical advice.
I did overlook the stand up cut out aspect of it.
DEcosse, you mention "wires". I thought it only had one wire, or am I thinking of another bike?

You're correct OnD - I looked back at your post & realized & had already corrected/edited that error - that's what happens when looking at schematic as opposed to the real hardware!
Does make the diagnostics easier - one less thing to worry about!

The bike restarts when the side stand is up no problem. I can get the light to flicker on or off, side stand up or down by wiggling the shift lever. Which is why I believe it to be a switch.
So by shorting the wire to chassis ground I should get a light and that would indicate there is no issues with the wire. However no light and I have a bad wire between the light and the switch. Correct?
If the wiring checks out the next step would be to test the switch. I would do so by placing the bike in neutral and doing a continuity check between the connector on the switch and chassis ground. If I get a mixed reading then I assume my switch is bad. I think that is the cause though and being so brings me to my next question.
How difficult is it to remove the switch? I'm thinking the force of the crash may have knocked the switch out of adjustment and hopefully it is an easy fix.
Thanks for the help guys.
Tom

found a schematic on bike bandit of the switch location, it appears to screw into the trans so would it be safe to assume I can unbolt it and clean/adjust it as needed and re-install or would I get a nice rush of oil when I did this?
