I just bought an '01 Sprint ST from Gulf Coast BMW in Houston, Tx. It was a demo, so I got the full warranty. I'd like to know about any re-calls that may apply.
I hated to see my '03 Speedmaster go, but the riding position and my bad back couldn't reach an agreement. I am amazed at how much more comfortable I am in the new position. Fortunately the bike came with bar risers & a D&D muffler...sounds great. My only concern is that it seems to take 4-5 tries to get it started after sitting overnight. Is this normal?
I plan on keeping the bike pretty much stock performance wise, but plan on adding some luggage for the long hauls...any suggestions would be appreciated. I kinda like the Tourmaster tail set...any input? I'd also like to replace or modify the rear turn signals with something a little more streamlined.
Thanks for any help, TM

If it was a demo model. Becareful about the warrantee. I had this issue with my '01 ST. I bought it new in Dec of 03 as left over stock. It had been shipped to the dealer as a demo bike, but it was never used as a demo bike. The warrantee started 6 months after it was shipped, so unknown to me, the warrantee expired in March of 2004. I tried calling Triumph of America and explained to them it was a new bike (less than 1 mile on the odometer). But they didn't work with me and basically stated, the warrantee had expired and if you had any issues you had to take it up with the dealer. However, since the dealer who sold me the bike was over 1,000 miles away, this wasn't a viable solution. Other than that one issue (and the fuel connectors), I've been very happy with my triumph.
Unless of course, the warrantee is one of those aftermarket extended ones...
Recalls: Clutch cable on some of the '01's and the fuel connectors are the main recalls. Some years also had some wheel bearing recalls. The dealer should know the recalls. The recalls are actually on record at Triumph of America.
Starting... I have over 19k miles on mine and it starts up right away each time.

Thanks for the input Tom. I'll have to check w/ the dealer to see what's up. The service manager was the guy who told me the warranty should still be good since the bike had never been registered...we'll see. So far I'm very impressed w/ the bike...particularly the handling. After riding a Speedmaster for the last couple of years it was like getting out of my truck and into a sports car...both are great at what they're meant to do.
I think maybe my starting problem is related to the spark plugs. I have read that when these bikes are not run for some time the plugs can be a problem. The battery may be questionable too. Gonna opt for some of the iridium plugs.

Yep, my bike had never been registered either. When my bike was shipped to me, it had the original factory paperwork. So do check with the dealer. If they led you wrong, get them to spring for an aftermarket extended warrantee.

You should be able to give the dealer a VIN number and have him check for needed updates. I have a 2000 Sprint ST that I'm taking in next week for the fuel connector recall, and they told me when they ran the VIN that there was a recall to reroute some of the ignition wires. I guess that's two you can check on.
My ST starts with 3-4 turnovers, first push of the starter button. It might take two if it's been sitting a while (weeks, vs. overnight).
Good luck with the warranty issue.

If this is your first fuel injected bike, be sure to resist the urge to twist the throttle before or as you start it. It should start easily every time.
