I have a '00 ST and was wondering if I am the only one to ever have a muffler fall off of my bike. I was riding to work last Thursday and about 4 miles up the road I hear this loud obnoxious noise. I realize its my bike making the noise. I pull over at the next gas station and say "Hey where the heck did that big shiny thing go?!?". Looking at the bike with no muffler and the open wheel it was quite sexy. Normally wide open exhaust is a cool, manly, tough, arggh arggh arrgghh! Not in this case it sounded like a 88 honda civic with a serious exhaust manifold leak. Maybe it would sound better if I had a different tune to make it less backfiry and poppy. Anyhow I took it back to the house and picked up my car went and got the muffler out of the street, took it back to my house then was planning on calling work telling them I would be late but being as I made up some excuse the day before so I could play hookey and ride all day I just took the really loud bike to work anyhow. I just filled it up the day before and my car has been on E for like 3 weeks now and I didn't feel like buying more gas or taking to time to stop. Anyhow enough about my story what happened is the 3 bolts that go through the bracket on the rear foot peg and into the muffler were non existent. I was just wondering if anybody else has shared this experience.

Wow. Never heard of that one.
Is the can useable again? Pretty banged up I imagine.
That means the through bolt at the pillion foot rest mount was gone, as well as the crimp bolt at the entry end. They say we should wash our bikes more, as that would make stuff like this more apparent.

Can still usable and stays on after trip to hardware store for some metric bolts. Im still claiming that as my excuse to buy the performance replacement once I decide which to go with leaning mostly towards staintune I think. If not that then 2 brothers. If money was no object I would get the underseat system from powermax but then again if money was no object I would just get an 05 sprint :-) Ehhh maybe next year!

Yup, lost two in mine this spring, caught the third one about two turns out. I bought new longer bolts and just wound them in good and tight and checked again after a couple of heat cycles, none have loosened so far.

hmmm, bailing twine and duct tape?:
just kidding, yep hardware store bolts, and invest in some loctite,
I noticed my Pannier bolts connecting to the footpegs came loose a bit until I loctited them.
I did get a visuall of a Wal-mart Cherry bomb muffler clamped to a bike about halfway through your story.
good luck!!, Oh and I've siphoned gas from the car to bike before

Yeah I thought about the "Red Green" solution but any excuse to go see the hottie that works at the hardware store is worth spending the extra money.
(For those who do not know what or who Red Green is, it's a canadian show that is on PBS some Saturday evenings. Very funny show where the guy fixes everything with duct tape and comes up with goofy inventions that allow you to be even more lazy, somewhat similar to Tim Allen's tooltime)
