Greetings,
I've noticed lately that my 02 ST with 15,000 miles is starting a little harder (turns over 7-8 times before igniting as opposed to 3-4 times). Also, After decelerating from cruizing and adding just a little bit of power the throttle control seems a bit eratic in that it has a tendency to jerk forward.
This problem leads me to believe that the idle/fuel mixture is out of wack; I've checked the air filter and it looks clean.
Could a TuneEdit diagnose and resolve this kind of problem?
Have any of you encountered a similar situation, and if so, what was your solution?
Thank you in advance

Did you have your valves done at 12K miles? What about having the throttle bodies sync'ed?

I did have the 15,000 mile service completed; however, I'm beginning to question their thoroughness. They did say they checked the valves and no adjustments were needed, and I do not hear any excessive tapping.
I can only assume the throttle bodies were sync'ed.
Guess I'll need to take it to my new dealer here in PA.?

Mine seem a little tough on the start. It has the original battery. 15k on mine.
Maybe it's about time I put a new one in? :???:

The battery seems fine. I noticed right after replacing plugs from winterizing it started right up rearing to go. But now it struggles to start and when it does catch, it seems to be a strain to start.

I'd run a batter test. Cheep and easy to do.

Maybe I need to expound on the term, "struggles to start".
The starter turns over great and doesn't even begin to slow; however, it takes approx. 10 secs for the fire to light the gas as though it has a week spark or...?
Could a low battery allow for a proper starter 'RPM' but not give the needed juice to the coils?
Nevertheless, Battery Test...Will do...Thanks for the suggestion.

This may sound simple. However, maybe you got a batch of bad gas?
Otherwise, it almost sounds as if your plugs may be fouled a little. I've never had it happen to me, but it appears that one of the plugs in the Sprints will often foul. Especially if it's kept outside.
FWIW

Bad gas is a possibility; especially since it started a little better this morning (took approx. 5 sec. of cranking to start).
I did not winterize, but I replaced plugs with new in March. I have put on 500+ miles since then. It had ran and started great that whole time until about a week ago.
I've never encountered bad gas, but am beginning to believe this is the case. I only run the good stuff, but am not familiar with what gas companies here in PA are rated better than another in quality. Any RAT members here know?
