2000 sprint RS full fairing

Hello, just a quick question... basically the sprint RS and the ST are the same bike, aside from a few details... I was looking at the fairing from the same model year and it appears that the ST full fairing should work with the RS... same frame motor etc... mounts braces on the frame different maybe? Can be replaced it looks like... anybody tried/done this?

Paging Steventhechef

Mr Chef or Mr DEcosse your assistance is needed in the fitting room please.

From memory it is not a simple change and I for one do not know anyone who has done this.

First off, you'll have to replace ALL of your exisiting fairing pieces north of the seat, none of them mate up with the ST pieces.

Then, you're missing some key frame mounting points. You'd have to have some exact measurments from an ST, and be handy with metalwork to build your own.

For the cockpit, you'll need a new set of brackets from the ST (or build your own), new mirrors, new windscreen, and you'll have to deal with mating the instruments up to the new brackets.

New fairing pieces run from $150 for the center nose piece, to nearly $500 for each of the side pieces...do the math.

Long story short, it could cost you a lot of money. Far simpler (and probably cheaper) to sell the RS and find a used same-year ST, if you just have to have the fairings.

err! sorry I'm late

Croak has hit the nail on the head. There was a Daytona fairing on an ST so anything is possible if you really want to do it or just happen to have access to the ST bits cheaply.

If you really want an ST sell the RS. Test ride one first as the full fairing doesn't suit everyone. Sometimes I'd like an ST for the looks but when my legs are cool and unencumbered I know that I have made the right choice.

Good luck

I firmly believe that it can be done. However you're probably gonna need some metal fab skills to make some mounts. I think the ST front fairing bracket that holds the lights, mirrors, cluster, and plastic can be had off ebay pretty cheap; I believe it should bolt right on. I bought a new one for 25 with shipping. The plastics on the other hand are gonna cost a pretty penny.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the rear hole for the ST fairing is not on the RS, that could be remedied with the metal fab to make a mount though. The lowers would require the same.

After all is said and done you'd have almost as much money and time into making the change as it cost to outright purchase a similar year ST.
