TOR & Aftermarket Exhausts
I've decided to take the plunge and buy a shiny new Sprint. Sometime next month after I move to my new home (Hobart). I'm looking for general opinions of the TOR pipe. I like the idea of it, as it keeps the triple-theme with with the 3 exits. How is the sound and performance of the TOR? Those who have them, are you pleased or do you wish you saved your money for something else? The Tridents look tasty, but shipping + import duties to Australia are hefty...
PS: the Hobart dealer said they've sold heaps of STs, three this month alone. Anyone here guilty?

Welcome to the forum and good choice of motorcycle. Great part of the world to go motorcycling where you're going to.
We had a bit of discussion on the merits of the TOR pipe and tune about a week ago on this thread
The TOR is a little louder than stock and I am yet to see any demonstrated performance gains from one.
If I were going to buy aftermarket pipes with the triple theme I would get Tridents or IXILS. D&D make a system as does Laser which are worth looking at.
Cheers
Ralphus

I would not/did not wast the time with the TOR. All it adds is a little more tone and volume to the bike..
Go with IXIL, trident, they give it a real good tone not too loud and just enough rumble D&D is just plane loud.. I do not know about the rest of the pipes out there.
IXIL,
the good: fit good sound good look good. and can change out the inserts till it sounds right to you..
the bad: you might have to make a bracket to put your plate on (took me about an hr once I figured out what I wanted to do)
Trident,
the good sound good, I think they have inserts as well, look good and no need to make a bracket for plate.
the bad: Some have had problems getting them in installed. everyone agrees they are a real tight fit.

They will install as designed. You just have to be smarter than the machine. And a tight fit is not a bad thing to have.

I've had the IXILs and now I have the TOR .
As you can see, the Tridents or IXIL have much more character, especially visually. They probably do provide more HP gain, but I really wonder if most of that is near the rev limit anyway. I don't know for sure. I personally don't ride the bike that way.
I really liked the IXIL but it did need a bit of tweaking to fit well (the aforementioned homemade bracket) and I ended up returning them. Otherwise, they were a very nice system as I am sure the Trident is as well.
The TOR does some of the same things as the others, maybe just not as much: relieve underseat heat, sound better than stock and HP gain (supposedly), but with a stock look. FWIW, I had gained fuel mileage with the IXIL and lost mileage with the TOR. About a 4-5 MPG swing in fact. Going to the TOR after the IXIL was a combination of the price vs. nice trade-off and my frustration with something more pricey that didn't fit out of the box. I got my TOR used so it was a good deal. If you plan to keep the bike and an after-market exhaust is a mod that's first on your list, you might like the Tridents better.

Tor
I bought a new 2006 Sprint 1050 last year with the TOR exhaust system. I had the dealer swap out the stock unit prior to bringing the bike home. They also did the TOR remap of the ECU. I am very pleased with the pipe in general. Good build quality and nice overall sound. The pipe is reasonably loud (descent character) without being obnoxious. I had an Aprilia Futura with H-pipe and Staintunes previously. Very loud indeed; almost neo-Ducati in sound considering the Rotax mill.
Triumph advertises a dyno'd 8HP gain with the TOR verses stock with ECU remap. The bike performs flawlessly with the TOR and has great power. While not as striking as a Trident, still a great product from my perspective, and OEM designed for the bike. I got a nice discount on the TOR when buying the bike, so was a good deal for me. No regrets.
At the end of the day, looks and sound is a personal thing.

I'm very happy with my TOR muffler. I thought the stock muffler was too quiet, but I didn't want something obnoxiously loud since my bike is a daily driver.

As most of you who have been around a while know, I am all about the IXIL cans. You can search out my how to install thread. I love the look, the sound and the performance. I love the fact that I can baffle them when I need too and get really 2 sounds out of one can. (trident can do the same). They look dang cool on the bike and people look at them.
The IXIL cans are super well made, I mean they are peices of art, but the periferals such as the the tail tidy and under tail bracket are pure rubbish. Get an RG tail tidy and bend up your own under tail ( search Calliway bracket) and you have a winning combo.

+1.
I am pleased with the noise...a little more, but not too much. It may be the Goldilocks of Sprint exhausts...
