Curious issue - wheel turns in neutral

Hey all,

I'm prepping a 2003 Sprint ST for sale. It hasn't been run since 2007. I just replaced the battery and put some fresh gas in and the bike fired up. I have it up on the centerstand to do the work, and when the bike started up in neutral, and I let go of the clutch, the rear wheel turned - about 2-3 revolutions per second. When I pull the clutch in, in stops.

Any idea what could be causing this?

TIA.

It's quite normal. The viscosity of the oil between the clutch plates creates enough drag to slowly spin the wheel.

The wheel will eventually stop moving once the oil is warmed up.

I have a 2000 955 and mine does the same untill the engine warms and the oil thins a bit, then it stops.

Awesome. I was hoping it was just some residual friction. Thanks for the quick replies.

All bikes with an oil bathed and multiplate clutch do that.

Not just Triumph & as stated perfectly normal.
