I`ve just bought possibly the last 04 model Sprint St in Australia, the one with the side panniers thrown in as a dealer runout special. Two days after buying it ( just to make sure I hadn`t made a stupid mistake) I test rode the 05 sprint. Make no mistakes this is a BLOODY good bike! I felt it was taller than the 04 models, definately steered better and had excellent power delivery. I also test rode the Daytona which, probably has more scope for handling adjustment and whilst it is more powerful on paper, the extra power isn`t that noticeable on the road. I think that riders who are more tourer orientated aren`t going to like the 05 sprint that much, I felt that a long day in the saddle would be VERY uncomfortable, more so for the pillion, but the real question is, this is such a bloody good sports bike, that will anyone really want to buy the Daytona any more? I mean it won`t compete with most jap sportsbikes and it`s not much chop for touring either, and in a shootout on winding country roads it only comes out a whisker better than the sprint!

I agree - the new Sprint is more "sport" than "touring", although I don't think piling on miles will be a problem. The only hinderance for me with the new Sprint is the windscreen. I take a beating at anything over 80. This could wear you down on a long ride. I owned a 00 Sprint and the new model is definately more fun - better riding position, feels lighter, faster and it looks too cool with the underseat exhaust. I could see anyone owning a Daytona moving up to a Sprint for a little more comfort - and not sacrificinga lot in performance.

I would imagine Triumph has already anticipated this and is/would revise/rebuild the Daytona 955i to surpass the 05ST. Maybe make it look more like its little sister the D650 and act more like the 05 GSZX10R1???

Things that make you go, Hmmm?
