hey all,

how easy/difficult is it to move the tail pipe back to the original, or as close to, position if you have the side bags? and what all is involved?

i don't want to remove the baggage mounts and all, just take the bags off and move the pipe up. i don't use them very often, and cannot yet afford an undertail, so i would like to be able to just move the pipe up and down when i need. i have an 03 st if it makes any difference in process/difficulty.

thanx,

rash

Rash,
Not a big deal, simply remove the angle adapter that mounts the muffler to the foot peg support and loosen the pipe clamp at the base of the muffler. Raise the pipe up and bolt the pipe directly to the peg. No need to remove the bag mounting hardware.

I took a look at trying this on my ST a few weeks ago. I found that the bag itself isn't what requires the can to be lowered, but it is in fact the mounting hardware. Even with that additional exhaust can mounting bracket installed, my can only clears the bottom most point of the mounting bracket by about a half inch.

Personally, I don't see any way to raise the side mounted can with the pannier hardware installed. I'm just eagerly waiting on the new Power Max under seat system. :-D

hey all,

i took the bags, trunk, luggage rack, and mounts off tonight. took 40 minutes, so should take about the same to reattach them.

the bike really looks different now. really.

not sure if i like it yet, but oh well.

OK, now that I think about it, I guess I did remove the hardware when I raised the can. I have done it twice, to get track ready and took so much off the bike I just forgot about the hardware. But as you found out, it isn't complicated to remove the mounts.
