GPS TomTom Setup with ZG Screen & Powerlet Harness

Noticed there are a few threads on people looking at setting up a GPS unit. Thought I'd just put up what solution I went with...if it helps ya, great.

Since I wanted a touring screen for the GPS, I went with the Zero Gravity 23-910...Link Here

I bought a car GPS, the TomTom XL Australia model. I got this one because a mate I went on tour with uses one all the time and it works great and costs one third the price of the bike version.

So, did not want to strip wires or get into the headlight wiring...basically did not want to bugger around with anything other that connecting into the battery or power socket. So I went with the powerlet USB harness to the battery...Link Here

Plugged into the battery and ran around side fairing. To avoid unscrewing panels and such, I used a thin wire to route around and in some clips that were already supporting other wires under the fairing up and around the RG slider bracket and around to under the seat and onto the battery....hooked on the usb wiring and pulled it through.

The TomTom XL uses a suction cup mounting bracket...seems to work ok. (The guy I went on tour with used it for 3000km on his touring screen and it held fast...in all sorts of road conditions...was very impressed)

Here is a view with the ZG tourning screen.

So....with the Powerlet connector it was a quick and easy install and while I was under the seat, I chucked in a battery trickle charger.

Have a great new year all...hope its a good one.

I bought a very simple kit has a car cigarette outlet that I've wired to the battery and strapped under the seat, the upshot is I can plug in my tom tom to it and I keep it in a tank bag (you can't count on it being dry) with headphone into my helmet.

As it turned out when it came to the trip I planned to use it the wife needed the sat nav that day so I used the same power outlet to keep my iPhone topped up and used its built in gps/google map to get me to my location.

Never thought about using the suction cup, though I'd be to worried that it might decide to drop off whilst at speed, thus kissing goodbye to the tom tom.
