Scottoiler

Hi. Just bought a new Sprint ST. I am thinking of fitting a universal scottoiler. Has anyone fitted this to a Sprint ST. Is it straight forward? Anything to watch out for?

Cheers

Pete

Hello and welcome

No doubt Dave or Don will be along shortly to offer you a more formal and complete welcome!

Great site, with tonnes of info, have you done a search?

As for Scotoilers, they do help prolong chain life (as they do what they need to regardless of needing a reminder!)

I know they worked (in the past) on a vacuum system, but that also meant you tended to get oil regardless of needing it. I was hoping to have gone to a show in the UK in November to see some updates, one of which was Scotoiler. They are supposed to now offer a means of being activated on the throttle position, so work more effectively with less waste and mess.

I am sure a number of other guys on here have fitted one to their bike and will give you the relevant info. I chose not to and went with some recommendations for a 'dry'wax chain lube - Wurth or Profi Dry seem to get good thumbs up.

Any photos of your bike?:

Welcome

Hi and welcome pgreenbank62

I have done a search and this is what I found in this forum;

http://www.triumphrat.net/sprint-for...cottoiler.html

http://www.triumphrat.net/sprint-for...cottoiler.html

http://www.triumphrat.net/sprint-for...hain-life.html

http://www.triumphrat.net/sprint-for...-question.html

http://www.triumphrat.net/sprint-for...for-05-st.html

There are quite a lot more you can find using the search engine if you want to, but there is a lot in just those above.

Don (dolson) and I always ask all new members to take a little tiome to read our forum stickies as it helps understanding of how we run things here.

Do not be concerned you have done nothing wrong it is just something we ask everyone to do.

We hope you enjoy our forum.

Cheers,
DaveM

If you do a search on those as well there will be more threads in this forum of the pro oiler also.

Welcome aboard, pgreen. You're going to enjoy tha new ST! Regarding Scottoilers, check your warranty. I seem to recall that in the past, Scottoiler fitment could invalidate the Triumph warranty, probably because it required a break-in to the vacuum line.
I fitted one to my RS at 11k miles, and my original chain has now done 23k miles.I have only ever adjusted after mainteance, so it seems pretty healthy. However, the oil flow is difficult to regulate and results in some fling-off onto the number plate and rear mudguard, probably becaiuse I err on the safe side to ensure adequate lubrication.I can't offer any advice regarding fitment to a 1050ST, but it was easy on the RS. I mounted the reservoir under the seat so that it was at approximately 45 degrees from vertical.
I've never seen the Pro-oiler recommended by Aimo but it does look impressive. It is, however, 3 times the price of a Scottoiler.Others on this forum recommend Loobman which is much cheaper. However, I have recently bought a second bike which will do fewer miles than my RS, so I'm planning to use a spray-on wax rather than fit any type of oiler.

The previous owner had fitted a scottoiler to my bike. Previously I had not heard of them so was very happy when I found out what it was. One thing though, get the dual adaptor if you can, so that it oils both sides of the chain, in fact I think they are starting to give that away with the units now away. When I got my bike the outside of the chain was nice and well kept, the inside had a layer of rust so the 2 sided thing is a must imho.

Here is the Scottoiler PDF for the ST
http://www.scottoiler.com/pdf/Triump...sh6-9-2007.pdf

I've had them on my last three bikes and so have my riding pals - we all think they are great - you can turn the flow rate up/down for better/worser conditions, so if it's wet and salt on the roads, turn it up or dusty etc. Works a treat

I like those immortal words written in red at the top of the scottoiler install instuctions
about it invalidating your warranty ...........pure BS!

All I can say is mine works fine, I have the dual injector kit, with the lubetube fitted around the shox which mean I need to refill it about once a year then forget it.

remember to save the inlet blanking plug, incase you need to replace it at some point.
Also make sure your bike keys are several hundred yards away from the bike while you fitting it
