Daytona Beach Bike Week 2009

I would really like to go to bike week next year. Have been looking into the possibility of shipping my Sprint over for the week, but even with the discount I get as an airline employee, it may be prohibitively expensive... not to mention all the hassle and paperwork for a temporary import and export with US customs.:

Does anyone know where I might be able to rent a Triumph for bike week in Florida. A Harley could be a possibility (though not desirable) and anything Jap is definately out of the question.:

Any help greatly appreciated.

James.

Pure Triumph in Ft. Lauderdale rents bikes and is far enough away from Daytona that they may have decent rates that week.

Good luck!

Bike Week...

Is it really worth it for you to travel over here for Daytona??

I went to every Bikeweek from 1994 untill 2004. After the first couple of years, it was just the same ol'-same ol'. After the excitment faded for me, I basically kept goin every year just to visit my friends (that live there) & get boozed up with them. The last couple years i went, most of the time we veered off & away from the Main st. hassel, and took long rides elsewhere in the state. (I love Florida!).

Now I hear (& correct me if I am wrong..) its just not the same as it once was. Police are cracking down more than ever. Amount of peep's has been reducing...etc.

Rent a Triumph? I don't know but we have plenty of places that will rent you a HD. If you're flying in to Orlando then Orlando Harley Davidson is right off of I-4 and is about a 50 mile ride into Daytona.

Yes the police presence has increased over the years but they aren't out hassling everyone. They are mostly crowd control and looking to enforce some of the new anti-hooligan laws.

But...

...dont let me diswade you tho. The weather had always been nice everytime I went (which is one of the things I love about FLA), the swap meets are always good for parts (but I mostly see H.D stuff, just watch out for the 'Hot' stuff), and vendors are a plenty!

If you decide to go, good luck. If you like to toss a few back just remember, do the speed limit, dont monkey around and make sure you know where you are going. If you are renting, your bike will more than likely be stock/quiet, as the Police tend to bust-em for loud bikes. Hit some of the more famous bars...Iron Horse, Boothill, the Bank...etc. And stop on the other side of the bridge, near Daytona HD, and get some cheap BikeWeek T-shirts for everyone.

I tend to go mainly to hang with my friends that live there. If they ring me and ask me if Im coming this year, and I can afford it, I PM you and maybe we can meet up. Ill show you some awesome (well, for FLA...mostly flat tho. LOL) backroads to ride. Ill have places to stay for free, as long as you dont mind a couch or pool table for a bed! Ill be on my Sprint if I go! ~~Later............J-

Johnny.

I understand your warnings, however it is ok!

I lived in Edgewater for 15 years so am familiar with the area. I also have an ex and two teenage boys still living there so I have a place to stay. I just never had a bike when I lived there so I thought it would be fun to take part.... at least once in a lifetime. Would certainly like to meet up with you if I actually achieve getting there... right now work time off is not looking too hopeful.

Might have to replan for Biketober.

Regards and Happy New Year!

James

If you are able to attend don't forget the great racing action at the speedway along with the demo rides. One of the nights for $35.00 you can do some parade laps on the 2 1/2 mile oval. The Daytona 200 will be run under the lights this year, a first, should be pretty exciting.

Daytona Bike Week

Hey guys. I’ve gone to Bike Week the last few years, and I've had a blast every year. I just hope the weather is good again this year. If you guys are looking for a great place to stay, I highly recommend the Daytona Bahama House. The location is great, and there is always a great crowd. Hope to see you guys.
