I have been looking at the various sites for the engine and did find that one on eBay. Believe it or not they are 15 miles from me BUT they won’t allow a local pick–up!!! So to have it shipped 15 miles cost the same $325 as it would if I were having it shipped 3000 miles. I am offering to throw them some more cash on the price for a local pick-up.
The motor I have now has some major top-end issues. The story is long and tedious but here it is. I bought this bike on eBay from a guy who is pretty local. He had the whole top-end rebuilt by a local Triumph dealer. He did disclose this and had the receipts to show for it. I got the bike and it rode fine for about 1000 miles. It started making an odd noise so I took it to my local shop and they said it was a top end issue. I showed them the receipts and they explained that that was exactly what they would have been looking to do to the bike. My shop recommended I call the shop where it was fixed. The Triumph shop where it was originally fixed explained that they had recommended to the owner at the time to get a new head. His complaint was it was burning oil and when they opened it up they found that the valve guides were worn. He didn’t want to spend the money on the new head so they took it to a machine shop. The bike was great when he got it back but a week later the shop got a call saying it was burning oil again. They expected him to bring the bike back in but he let them know that he had sold the bike and fully disclosed the issues. After talking to the shop I discovered that in fact he had not fully disclosed all the issues with it and what the Triumph dealer had recommended. All the seller had shared with me was that it burned a bit of oil, an amount that was ‘within the Triumph guidelines’, and that it was just the new rings seating.
Anyway the bike runs but it is messed up and I am trying to get out of it without an arm and a leg missing. I am probably have my guys open it up to see what it is. The original shop said that they would be willing to take any part that was machined incorrectly back to the machine shop to try to get some resolution. They do not what anything else to do with the bike, I can’t blame them.
When we take it apart to look at it I will have them salvage all usable parts and if the cams seem in good shape they are yours. Probably won’t be for a while due to trying to determine the best course of action.
My feeling at this point is if I can get a local pick up on the engine on eBay that it probably wouldn’t hurt to have it and have my shop open it up knowing that I will probably end up buying the reconditioned engine from Triumph-ant.
As you probably have guessed I really like this bike.

You really got the shaft on that deal! Personally, I would find "Mr. Honesty" and kick his worthless a$$!
Thank you for the offer of the cams (pending condition).
You may be able to recover some of your costs by selling bits of the motor. I'm sure you could sell the case covers, bottom end, etc.
Good luck.
