New S3 owner - engine sound question

I just bought an '01 S3 and this is my first encounter with the triple engine. The power delivery is smooth during acceleration but at idle or constant speed, the engine sounds sort of unbalanced. I'm not sure if there is a problem or if this is just a characteristic of the triple cylinder engine. My bike has a Two Brothers exhaust and power commander, has a nice growl, strong pull and fast acceleration.

Am I just hyper-sensitive because I just bought the bike, or is this normal for the triple?

I'm not sure what "unbalanced" means, but if you are talking about an unsteadiness of speed at idle, it could be a fuel system matter... anything from throttle bodies not being in perfect balance, to an air leak in the system, a bad oxygen sensor (if the system is still operating in closed loop mode), or the Power Commander simply not being set up as precisely at idle as it is at operating conditions. None of these should be a major concern, but if you can clarify the symptoms a bit, probably someone here can narrow down the possibilities for you.

I have a 2001 Daytona 955i and it has a very mechanical sound to it but that is normal for the early 955 engines
Is that what You are refering to?

The triple sounds like a bag of hammers, but it's normal. Just wear earplugs and it sounds better.
