Handlebar Question

Anyone know of available risers that will set the fat Magura style bars back a couple of inches and maybe raise the bars an inch or so? The combination of the bars being so wide and so far forward gets hard on the palms of your hands and arms on a long ride. Thought about shortening the Magura bars but don't know how much can be lopped off of each end without causing abrupt kinks in the cables, etc. They used to make high style clip ons that allowed you to adjust the bar angle to the forks which made the distance between bar ends shorter and brought the grips closer to the seated rider. These were high style clip ons that weren't any lower than the standard bars. They just allowed the bars to be adjusted to the most comfortable riding position. Don't know if they are still available or not. Haven't seen them for years. As I remember they were imported from England. As much as I like sporting type bikes am approaching the geriatric arthritic age where comfort is starting to override common sense. Thanks for the help.

John, You can cut maybe an inch off each end to bring them in, but then you start running into problems with the mirrors, grips, etc. bunching up against the bend in the bar. Check out British Customs, I think I saw a riser set on their website. It that doesn't work, I know a Harley dealership that might give you a few bucks on a trade-in!!!

handlebar question-should have bought a Harley

Bite your tongue and may you get ten thousnad fleas. I'll trade the old S3 handlebars for a new XR1200, that's all of the Triumph they would ever get from me. Recently got rid of an S4RS Ducati, if that tells you anything. Still have the S3. Some day, when you grow up, you'll realize (maybe?) that older dogs have aches and pains from previously giving in to the motorcycle fads of the day. Have been riding cafe racer/street fighter type bikes since the mid sixties and some were quite an experiment in contortionism. Thanks for the info, will give the web site you mentioned a try.

Thanks again

John

The Magura bars taper to a narrower diameter under the controls than they are on the rest of the bar, so you wont be able to move the controls much closer if you cut the ends off.

Try a set of Renthals, thats probably the easiest option.
