Question 2008 Speed Triple abrupt throttle response

Hello,

I am a lucky owner of a 2008 Speed Triple, the one with the Brembo brakes.

I am very happy with the bike, I have a huge fun driving it.
There is only one thing annoying me , it is the rather abrupt/brutal throttle response at low revs, typically when accelerating out of sharp corners.
It is difficult to dose the throttle, the torque comes all of a sudden (on/off behaviour). Because of that, I am quite reluctant to sharp curves.

The throttle response isn't always as abrupt, it seems to depend on atmospheric conditions or other paramaters.

This problem is really annoying, I tested other modern fuel injection bikes (Aprilia Tuono, BMW R 1200 GS, Suzuki GSXR) as well as older carbureted bikes and their throttle response is a lot smoother.

I read about abrupt throttle response on earlier 1050 Speed Triples and thought that it should have been solved with the new ECU.

How can I solve that problem? My Triumph dealer checked the bike last week but found no problem on the injection, and the throttle synchronisation is perfect.

Thanks a lot for your help & advice

The bike is just a beast. Very touchy throttle and can get scary on you fast. I'd just be smooth on the throttle. I found my 08' is very very smooth but just alittle extra throttle when your not really wanting it and its another bike altogether.

All Killer, No Filler! My 07, does the same thing, especially in 1st! Just loads of torquey power, nothings wrong. I usually take my corners in 2nd, traffic permitting, and just goose it! You'll get it figured eventually.
Cheers,
Mark

Yeah agreed. I've got an 07 model and it's very twitchy in 1st and does get interesting when pulling away from stationary into a corner.

I've had about thirty bikes and ridden many efi models, including owning an R1200GS and some bikes reputedly with on/off fuelling like VFR's.

The response with efi is pretty instant, and simply requires a smoother hand.

Max torque on the Speedy is available pretty much from 3,000 rpm. So, even at that it's pumping out maybe 75 lb/ft of the punchy stuff, and repeating it as fast as the number of dialled in horses will allow.

You'll get used to it and it will probably even improve your riding skills, making you much smoother.

As a tip practice riding in the rain, without using your brakes unless absolutely necessary - if that doesn't make you smooth, then you probably have a history of crashing - lol!

I've added the S3 after 4 years of riding Harleys. It didn't take me very long to learn to love the throttle response I get from Speedy. The Harley now reminds of driving an old dynaflow Buick. I think with enough practice you'll learn to handle that great "Twist and Go".

I've just bought an 08 model having chopped in a CBR600F Sport for it. My CBR was an '01 model with the first generation Honda Fuel injection. The whole time I owned it I was too scared to go round corners in any low gear 'cause the throttle response was so abrupt. Now on the S3 i've been telling everyone how smooth the throttle is and can now go round corners even in first. So I guess its what you're used to.

I went from a 96 S3 to an 08 and hand a bit of trouble adjusting. I have shot across into oncoming traffic a couple of times due to bumps etc while turning at traffic lights. I also had difficulty in the middle of a corner hard over. There is nothing wrong with the bike. I am of the opinion that you have to change your riding style as technology changes. You're old aren't you?

I have an 08 Speedy. My throttle is smooth. Take it in and have the dealer look at the TPS, throttle bodies, and fuel map. It's under warranty so don't mess with it.
