Suggest you try a Purolator PureOne filter - PL14610 - these are the top rated in independent study
At twice the price K&N didn't even come close.
Get the Purolator at PepBoys for $6

Or you can get pack of 2 on Amazon for $8.99, and $4 mail-in rebate on top of that. If you have Amazon Prime shipping is zip.
For chain lube check webbikeworld.com. I use their recommended Dupont teflon.

Good deal :

Are you absolutely positive on that Purolator part #?

Upon doing some research for prices I found THIS POST ON ANOTHER SITE stating the PL is in no way approved by Purolator for motorcycle usage so I hit the Purolator web site and checked the vehicle application guide at http://www.pureoil.com/ and all Purolator filters listed for Triumphs are indeed ML's. (I tried to attach the PDF but it exceeds the forums limits)

Just double checking as I'd love to have a much better filter AND save some coin too!

It is interesting to read the entire thread on the ST site. Comments there (some from filter industry pros) basically reject opinion expressed by tech support guy. Main concern and argument pro factory filters is warranty violation... which is bull.
I personally use PureOne and will do so - superior filtration will always be high on my list. Add neodymium magnets on filter and you cannot get any better engine protection.

I also found that entire thread very interesting as I did the take-apart reviews of the various filters.

I am very new to the mechanical/maintenance side of motorcycles but having come from a very mechanically oriented background (and now being in an engineering field) I always do a double take when I see any inconsistencies such as a part number that doesn't jive.

I'm curious as to how long these PL's have been used in motorcycle application?

Thanks for the response and keep the shiny side up!

There are many, many users of this filter on the Triumphs (see search link) & even other marques. The PL14612 is technically the same fit, but many, like me, prefer the 14610 because it is longer, (more filter area) without any compromise to ground clearance or potentia damage.

The search on PL14610

DEcosse is absolutely correct!

Bottom line best filters for the bike are (and in no order):

1) Mobile One M1-108 (2.5")
2) Mobile One M1-110 (3.25")
3) Puro Pure One PL-14610

And a little known fact, AC Delco are the SAME filters as the Mobile One minus the fancy Mobil One label.

I always use Mobil One M1-108 just because it's always stocked at the parts store closest to my house.
