Help!

I have a 2006 Speed Triple with twin Trident carbon fibre end cans fitted. I had my local dealer remap it with the Arrow tune but it is running far to rich so i have decided to get a power commander 3 fitted next week with a K&N filter and a custom map.
My question is, will it work as is - with the Arrow tune, or will i have to get the ecu put back to standard first?
Any help greatly appreciated.

PC3 puts an adjustment on top of whatever is coming out of the ECU. If you are going to use a downloadable map off the internet, then yes, you need to put it back to a stock setting. If you are going to have a map made for your bike on a dyno run, then no. The PC3 would just add to the arrow tune already in your ECU, but only if built off a dyno.

I would suggest going back to stock ECU and then PC3-ing it up. Just to make things more clear in the future plus being able to try other maps and being able to put it back to stock. Of course you are now going to get blasted with a lot of comments on buying a TuneBoy instead Another fine option.

Thanks for your quick reply Xactoman, i wont be downloading a map myself it's going to be a custom map set up on a dyno by a technician, i'm well glad i wont need to go back to the dealership to have it returned to standard as they are running about 2 weeks behind with the amount of work they have!

That's kind of a bummer that the dealer is so backed up. Only takes a few minutes to do a tune. Surprising they wouldn't just squeeze you in.

I would just make a note about your tune setup in the owner manual. If you go and sell the bike, someone will really be messed up trying to figure out what you got brewing. PC3 on top of a custom ECU map is not the norm.

Of course this is all my opinion. Why don't you ask the dynojet guy what he thinks.

Why in the world would you purchase and install a PCIII in your bike and not go with a TuneBoy??????

Did the dyno shop convince you otherwise? It's typical if so.

Makes zero sense to hardwire a PCIII into a bike that has the ability to have MAPs uploaded into its ECU. And Tuneboy has SO many other options/abilities that the PCII doesn't.....nevermind that there's zero physical equipment that needs to be wired into your bike and reside in the trunk area.

To each his own i guess.

S3 Junkie...I bet $100 that Booda wants to get a custom map ( good ) but the dyno shop only knows how to use a PCIII & don't want to bother to learn a new system ( bad ).

Having said that, wouldn't you want the tune restored to stock as baseline since you really don't know if the dealer even loaded the correct ( Arrow ) tune in to start with? One dual slip-on is pretty much the same as the next, it shouldn't be running horribly rich...I would want it stock ESPECIALLY since the PCIII is a piggyback...

Actually, I would want a Tuneboy either way you look at it. PCIII is a kludge in comparison.
There, I said it.

the saga continues...

well, i spoke to the dynotech dude today, he seems to think that it wont make any difference if the ecu is stock or not!? i am tempted to go with his advice as he's a fully trained dyno technician...apparently.
As for tuneboy i don't think it's AS popular here in the UK, PC3's seem to be a lot more common at any rate. i have to admit i hadn't heard of tuneboy until i joined this site, it could just be me though, wouldn't be the first time

Booda....

Dude....listen!!!!!!!!! You will not gain but MAYBE a butt hair of difference from a custom tune!! I swear to you, please sae your money. I've gone this route in my earlier naive days. I hd a PCIII in my CBR 1000rr. I had a MAP from a friend uploaded into the bike and dyno'd it. The guy who did my dyno run pumped me up while I was there and convinced me to get a custom tune. The custom tune BARELY..........BARELY made an improvement!!!!!

There is almost ZERO difference between exhaust cans. The main differences are the looks, sounds, materials, mounting positions. Inside it's a tube with preforations and packing material. I've seen inside of so many cans.

I can even refer you to one of the best places to get the Tuneboy.

There are SOOOO many free MAPs available online. PM me and I can show you were to find a large list of MAP's that custom tuners have made and are gracious enough to share online with us. These are people that have spent the money and spent HOURS and hours tweaking the MAPs and shared them with us all online. PM me if you wanna go this route.

GET THE TUNEBOY!!!!!!! Nothing is wired into the bike and nothing stays on the bike. With the Tuneboy you can easily do other things aside from upload MAPs. For example, you can fix the speed error, you can diagnose and clear engine codes, you can balance your throttle bodies, you can run diagnostics on various things like your cooling fan, other things as well.
