Thoughts on Harley riders

I've noticed this since I started riding motorcycles on the street, Harley riders will not wave to sportbikes (or anything besides another harley for that matter). Now there are exceptions to this rule of course, but for the most part I notice that much more often than not a harley will not wave back to me or even give me a nod while on speedy. When I was 16 I started off on a dualsport (dr350) and then moved onto various other bikes one of which being my old mans 79 guzzi. After 6 years of street riding on numerous completely different bikes this has (with a few exceptions) always been the case. My dad still has the guzzi, but he rides a harley now (don't hold it against him he's owned some cool bikes in his day) and when he rides in front of me he gets waved to by most bikes including harleys. Do they only wave to the same brand of motorcycle as they ride???!!! Does anyone else notice this?? My thinking is that we are all on two wheels and enjoying riding..... I'm beginning to think harley riders think they are better than the rest of the motorcycling community. I for one will still wave to every stinkin harley on the off chance they may wave back, and then I can rest assured that they aren't ALL pricks.

sorry about the rambling. I had to get this off my chest

Harley riders in general bother me. Every once in a while you run into someone who's cool, but for the most part they are way into themselves. I still wave as well, but I never expect anything when dealing with HD riders. My uncle rides harley's, and he actually told me I shouldn't get the S3 and that I should buy his electra-glide instead. "who want's a bike like that when you could own a harley?" Such nonsense.....

I'm not in the habit of waving at accountants and lawyers in the midst of a mid-life crisis.

I'm sick of Harley Bashing

No, I don't ride a Harley.

Fact: 1 in 2 bikes sold in the US is a Harley. To catergorise half the riding population by their bike is ridiculous.
What next?

Moderators, please shut this down!

You've got to be ****ing kidding me.

You deem this topic unworthy; therefore, it must be shut down. Have I stumbled into a police state? Apparently I have. Ban me now.....

Thank you.

Man! Cool down. Go and do some yoga or something. Or am I generalising Californians too much?

If anyone wants to bash Harley riders, go to a Harley forum and do it there.

Do get a grip chaps, not all Harley riders are fairweather self-important types!

My mate Andy road his H-D alongside me in our 24 hour / 720 mile marathon in almost nonstop wind and rain last weekend.

Harleys? I dont mind them. I used to think they were pretty poofta-ish but I`ve since met a lot of good blokes that ride them. And bad ones too. I have helped a well known 1%er motorcycle club with the commercial lease on their clubhouse and I can tell you, not many people would bag Harleys in their company!

When we drew up the lease I was working with their secretary-treasurer and I happened to mention, "I ride a Triumph." He replied, "I know, we`ve checked you out."

Gulp!

Some of their members are swapping their Harleys for Rocket 3`s and some of them own sportsbikes as well as their Harleys, ie Ducati 1098`s, MV F4`s, Daytonas, Benellis etc. the only rule seems to be 'No Jap Bikes.'
I`ve seen one of their club members wheelie an F4 in 3rd gear and take it up to 200+kph on the back wheel, now this is a guy who can usually be seen on a matt black Fatboy! So don`t fall into the trap of thinking that Harley riders are all middle aged accountants playing 'wild hogs'!!!

I don't know your location, spdtrprdr888, but I do not have this experience here in South. They do wave back, and have nice habit of waving me through when I get to the end of column of Harleys and want to pass (moving to the side and checking for traffic ahead to help with safe pass). From time to time you encounter somebody not waving, but usually he looks like somebody afraid to take his hands off handlebar (this is also independent of the bike he rides).
