Other than the RUBs and the scooterboys (local kids on scoots in groups of 2 to 4 or so running down the middle of a 55mph road at 30 mph...) most everyone waves here in the south. The RUBs are hanging on for dear life (thinking, d**n, hope I look cool!) and the scooterboys are there for target practice (fun blasting thru a gaggle of them on the Sprint....). Biggest problem here are the new riders; don't know how to ride, and it shows. I help them pick their bikes up at intersections.....

Frankly, with gas prices, there are so many new riders and riders who have pressed their machine into more than Saturday afternoon service, I see a lot of blank stares but no waves. I think they are trying to figure out if they know me.

This is one thing I appreciate about riding Triumphs. I first noticed it w/ my SprintST. The RUBs won't give you a nod, but the old schoolers will chew your ear off about their trumpets.

I was at a Patriot Guard ride a few weeks ago and a thirty somethinger started in with the "plastic bike" jokes, then he slipped and called it "Jap Crap". Well... myself and this old gruff lookin biker started laughing and he asked me if he could correct him or should I. I let him... and it was worth it watching this older dude "educate" the young HD rider about what Triumph is and how they helped keep the HD doors open through forced innovation on the racetrack. The younger guy took his lashings and slunk away... was very funny.

my opinion... It's all good. Ride what you want. Just realize that not everyone wants the same thing out of a motorcycle and why should they be looked down upon for it.

My only beef is the insane loud exhausts. I do not need to hear a bike from a mile away. Not necessary. I feel this alienates all bikes to certain parts of the population.

Wink

It's kind of funny how many HD riders seem to really like the little Triumph Twin I ride. It seems to be accepted by both the HD crowd and the sport bike crowd. I get waves returned from 'bout everyone, and if I don't get a wave I don't sweat it.

Heck, sometimes I don't wave. Busy shifting, riding, or just didn't see the other bike in traffic soon enough.

Some HD's appeal to me. I could see a suitably set up Sporty in the garage someday. It would have to be fast though, not just noisy. And I could see two-up touring on one of the big HD touring bikes. That could be fun. Thumpin' & rumbling along, just me and my lady and about 200 of our best HD poser friends!

Regards, Guy

BTW - I lurk here on the Speed Triple forum 'cause I'm mighty fond of those FAST Triumphs. Just not sure that at 52 I'm mature enough to keep from getting locked up if I had one...

Maybe everyone's just tired of the same old wave. Actually, 'round where I am on a good Saturday, there are so many bikers you could just continually wave and never touch the clutch grip!

I say we Triumph guys start our own "new wave" wave. May I suggest the left hand thumb to the nose, fingers straight up, then wiggle your fingers alternately back and forth.

Full face helmet guys will need to drill a 1 17/32" hole in the visor, nose centerline, for thumb insertion.

Only we will know the true meaning...

Please note, while you may need to have the helmet on in order to get hole position correct, it is recommended that you remove the helmet before you commence with the drilling.
