Daytona 675 instrument cluster on S3

Does anybody know if gauges from a 675 will work on a S3? I have a 2007 with a broken instrument cluster and the daytona's seem to be more plentiful, plus I like the black gauge face and I dont mind that the redline will show a little high.

Thanks

Thats a good question, we just bought a new 09 Street Triple and I was wondering if the Streets gauges would work on my 07 Speed Triple. I love the brighter lighting, and the gear indicator.

I would guess...........not.........but maybe someone has looked into it. I saw somewhere where a member changed out the orange back light to the white like on the Street.

not sure about the '09, but the 05-08's have the exact same instrument body and are interchangable from a mechanical standpoint. I am hoping that it is just plug and play or a change in the ECU. I will know today as I have a 675 gauge set arriving. its cheap enough that if its a no go, I will just resell it. my current gauges work for teh most part, but the lens was cracked (previous owners head I believe, so no warranty) and some water got in and the trip button is flakey sometimes.

I am suprised that no one has chimed in. For followup, I plugged in the gauges from the 675 and... nothing. I get a flashing MIL light and the ECU wont prime the engine or let the starter engage. So unless there is a swith that you can access with the programmer to configure the ECU, I am at a loss.

Dude just go to the dealer and ask them. I'll bet there's some dealer trick, so to speak, to prevent people from just buying and installing a new gauge cluster when selling the bike to hide the amount of mileage the bike really has.

I doubt there is any trick to replacing gauges. My 1050 has had the gauges replaced on warranty and I am pretty sure the monkeys at the service center I used would know how to pair an ECU with a certain gauge cluster. +the replacement literally took minutes.

I think it is just a matter of the 1050 ECU not being compatible with the 675 one. CAN bus driven and all that, so it wont be quite as simple as just having bunch of raw meter signals being fed to the gauges.

For sure the gear indicator will not work as the 1050 does not have the necessary gear position sensor.

I don`t know, it might be possible to make it work. The 08 S3`s have the same ecu as the 07 and they have the same instruments as the 675, albeit without the gear indicator.

Modern RFID security systems for automobiles and motorcycles typically require three modules for communication purposes in order to allow starting.

The key with a RFID enabled transponder module.

The ECU with stored code and response circuitry to both communicate with the transponder and allow or deny ignition or fuel delivery.

The gauge cluster with stored code.

If any one of these three are not present or matching the vehicle will be immobilized. The reasoning is that it protects against theft of the entire bike by replacement of the simple component (key/cylinder/ecu) to override the security, theft of integral components such as the cluster assembly or mileage tampering by replacement.

In order for the system to operate again you'll either need the Triumph Service Tool used to communicate with the ECU or to take the motorcycle to a Triumph certified dealer and allow them to do so.

Triumphs do not have that. Cost savings etc. Matching template keys available at any locksmith down the road. Will work; no probs.

None of that either.

Would make sense, but:
1) the dealer service manual gives no steps for pairing ECU+gauges
2) the change of gauges literally took a minute at my local dealer, where every time they have to break out the dealer gameboy it takes at least 20 minutes for them to figure it out

-> I'm 90% sure no pairing needed.

None of that in Triumphs either. Mileage is stored in gauges only. ECU knows nothing about it. Replacing gauges will change mileage to the one stored in the gauges. New gauges will drop your mileage to zero.

Nope. My bet is that any correct version gauges for 1050 Triple, instead of the 675 ones will work.

Damn, Triumph is just archaic! LOL I thought our bikes did have encoded keys. *sigh*

Clarification of what I meant about the mileage was not to say that the ECU also stores it but that the Gauge cluster was paired with the ECU and key via the RFID encoding, allowing no other cluster to be used until the code was updated on it.

I'm sad to hear that our bikes do not support such features, that in my mind are simple implementations these days, especially with the availability of a CAN BUS interface. I'd be willing to look over the schematics of the 675 and 1050 if someone has them but otherwise have no idea what could be different. The Tiger looks to have a slightly simpler gauge cluster but the 675's appear to be the same externally in exception to the face color and adjustment to redline.
