I've got a screw loose...

I was out on a joy ride today- going threw a tight curve when I heard a jingle sound and thought I saw something fall off of the bike (or bounce up after I ran over it).
I went threw the curve and looked for a place to turn around- when I got back to the curve I pulled over to have a look see. Sure enough there was a hex head bolt on the pavement. The head is brass colored, the bolt is more silver in color, it is about 1 inch long with the threads covering the lower 2/3rds of the bolt. I can't seem to find where it came from... does anyone have an idea of a
place(s) on the bike to start checking (maybe a common place for bolts to loosen)?

2000 955i

I know it's a long shot but thanks in advance.

Can't help you. Scour the bike and find where it goes. while you're at it, check all your fasteners.

Not long after I got my bike I was poking around seeing how the tank came off and what not, when a small hex head screw that looked used and had a brass coloration fell from the bike. Scoured the bike and could not find a hole for the screw. The next time I was at the dealer I showed the service manager the screw and told him what happened, so they pulled the tank and airbox still no empty holes.(no charge)

After closer inspection of the screw we noticed that the thread pattern was different than anything else.

The best I can figure is that it came from a piece of machinery on the assembly line.
