07 S3's
how many cranks(wah, wah, wah)does it take for your bike to start? mine is like 3 or between 2 and 3. is this normal? i read in tests that they improved the 07's from past models. yes i have a new battery.

When mine is cold, I think she takes about the same amount of cranks. (2 or 3). But when warm, she starts right away.

Well, looks like you've asked the question that I wanted to ask for some time.
My '07 Speedy is behaving strange in this area. It normally requires 2 separate starter operations - first one cranks it few times, but does not fire, then second ignition turn fires it right up. If I hold the starter longer first time it cranks 4-5 times, fires once and dies (or does not fire at all, but I never keep cranking this long).
It is unusual, none of my bikes needed this in the past or now. It is very consistent, seems like first few cranks pull the fuel so the next try lights it up.
Anybody has the same experience? Any ideas?

Same here, spins 3 or 4 times then kicks over.

bodan, that makes sense to get some gas pumped up-i heard a guy say that about efi cars(in the winter)...crank a second. stop then go again. it seems to work. i had trouble starting it a few weeks ago and tried this. but when i turned it the second timwe it sounded like someone hit the engine with a hammer! inside backfire maybe? i decided not to do it anymore. did you buy used? i had to put a new battery in cause of the temp gauge loading up on cold starts. it did the trick. sounds like despite the "improvments" that they just start slow.

Mine never starts up on the first series of cranks either unless the engine is still warm. I always let the starter motor turn over a few times on the first try, pause, and then resume cranking. It always fires right up on the second try. It's the only fuel injected bike I've ever had that behaves this way. Just a Triumph quirk I guess.

I bought it new, in March as '07 leftover. It was the second one I rode - first died during demo after 3-4 miles. Turned out - it was the dead battery.
I got the other one, but it seems that dealer does poor job maintaining batteries - I put it on Battery Tender and it took long time before it shown "full".
I don't know, maybe this is still weak battery - on first cranking goes down so it is not enough for good spark, so it will catch on second time, when battery recovered from initial drain. I keep connecting it to charger once a week, but no change. If battery was deeply discharged in the crate it is weakened for the life, so new one might be a cure.
I just want to hear if anybody has different explanation, if not - I'll replace battery and try to make Triumph pay for it.

Don't you need a special charger to fully charge a calcium-lead battery?

Exact same procedure that works for my 07.

This is not wet battery, this is AGM battery. Battery Tender works for these batteries.
Well, looks like not only my bike has this quirk. Anybody else? Anybody found solution ti this?
