A Triple Slayes the Dragons Tail

I had an awesome Memorial Day weekend ride I wanted to share, along withwhat I learned about my Speed 3. I started in Atlanta, and worked my way up to Suches, GA to a resort called "Two Wheels Only". There I met up with my ex-father-inlaw and one of his friends and grabed a bite to eat. We left windingm our way through the North Georgia Mountains (with a little sun and a little rain) till we reached Deals Gap, North Carolina. This town with a population of 7 sits right up next to the North Carolina-Tennessee border. Crossing that border is US-129 also known as the world famous "Tail of The Dragon". This sick road has 318 curves(most more than 90 degrees) in a meer 11 miles. Unfortunatly I was behind the ex-father-inlaw on his kawasaki Vulcan, and was limited in my speed by his sparking floor-boards. We proceded to Alcoa Tennessee where after 4 hotels we finally found a room for the 3 of us. The next day we rode to Pigeon Forge for breakfast then to Cherokee, North Carolina, through the Smokey Mountains. Lots of twisties and elevation changes of thousands of feet. We then got on the Blue Ridge Parkway 80 miiles to Asheville, NC, my home town. We only had to try 2 hotels before we found a room this time. The next day after breakfast with my uncle and his wife (he was on his KLR and she on her beamer dualsport) we took a round about way to the Georgia-South Carolina border where I-85 took us back to Atlanta. Definatly my best Ride in my "extensive" 2 year riding career!

What I learned about the Speed 3:
The rear fender is only useful in the rain.
The rain handeling is very reassuring.
Be careful with your foot placement, because your toes drag before your knee, and now I need new riding boots.
A stock '07 Speed, will easily beat a '02 ST 955i even with trick exhaust.
The stock seat is not intended for riding 7 hours in one day.
Gold Bond Powder will help with this a bit.
95% of the motorcyclists in the Southeastern United States have no idea what the Speed 3 is.
"Harley Handelers" and "Jap-Bike Jocks" all fall in love with it at first sight!

And heres a pic of me on the Dragon!!

Kinda looks like you just poked the Dragon with a sharp stick.

I kid...I kid! Sounds like a fun trip.

Like I said...I was crawling up the ass of my ex-father inlaw on his bagger. I could only get up to about 45 mph. The end of june Im making it part of a trip to my granndmothers 80th birthday party, so Ill be hitting it solo. Ill have a more knee down picture.

Cool! If you're gonna put your knee down, you might want to duct tape some pucks to those jeans.

Dragon

Very Cool.

I will be heading out for the Dragon tomorrow. Meeting up with Bro-In Law in Nashville Friday AM (Mud Tavern) and then hooking up with my Brother in Knoxville Friday night. On to the Dragon Saturday, and then back to Memphis Sunday. Not near enough time for the area... (1 Day) but I will take what I can get.

I doubt I will be draggin a knee .... I just hope to not drag my butt, hug a tree, or freefall from a guardrail..lol.

Sounds like a great ride. I'd like the chance to slay the Dragon one day.
