Whats a warranty for?

So i was getting ready for a joy ride on my 07 S3 with 1200 miles on it. Before i went i was looking at my radiator witch had been leaking after coming back from some service work. I was just checking to be sure it wasn't going to leak again when i noticed that my clutch cable had been rubbing on the radiator and has worn the coating off and it is down to the metal jacketing.

SO with 1200 miles i figure that even though it is considered a "Wear" item it should still be covered because of the rubbing. I Zip-tied it to the frame so it wouldn't rub for the weekend and it works fine. Call the dealer and they say it isn't going to be covered seen as it is a wear item. Is it ok that im a wee bit upset. I mean i have friends who have bikes with over 20k miles on them without having to replace a clutch cable.

I even asked if rubbing on the radiator until it wears through "normal" wear. They declined to answer. I am still going around and a round with them and this isnt the first time ive had issues with the dealer. Should i just try and find another dealer?

A warranty limits the manufacturer's liability.

You could ask Triumph (in writing) directly for a response to your problem, but be sure to just lay out the facts without laying blame on anyone.

Don't make any threats, but make sure to tell them what you want - a new clutch cable - and installation by the dealer of your choice.

IMHO, Whether or not you continue to use the same dealer or find a new one, is a separate issue.

Good Luck!

I understand what the warranty is for. I guess what im trying to get across is the fact that if i would be the dealer i wouldnt just say "nope not covered" with out seeing it. I think id simply say bring it in if its wearing prematurely we may be able to do something about it. And if the dealer contacts Triumph and they say nope then its triumphs problem, and i would contact triumph myself.

Sorry im just a bit grumpy that i have a bike i bought 3 months ago that a dealer doesn't seem to want to deal with. Just figure if you spend 9k on a bike and 2k+ in accessory's they'd want to take care of ya.

May be the issues ive had with the dealer before that are putting a sour taste in my mouth. In any case it is a simple fix that needs to be done.

I'm going on my 3rd clutch cable. First one melted. I figured out that it was improperly routed but Triumph would not replace it under warranty because they blamed it on the dealer who made the error during prep. I complained to the dealer and generally made a pest of myself and they sent me a new cable for free and I installed it properly. Now it's FUBAR again because the lower guide (attached near the bottom of the radiator) has a rough edge that wore through the cable housing. I just ordered a new one and I'll try to figure out a way to keep this from happening again. We'll see...
