Angry What do I have to pay?

Howdy, I'm new to this forum, hoping to buy a 2008 S3. I found one that I liked at a dealer in the next state and agreed to the price-- $10,300. But then I was told that I would also have to pay a $350 fee because I was an out-of-state buyer, plus $850 for destination and set-up. This seems like a lot of additional money. Is this what I have to pay to get one?

Since the 08s are still "hot off the presses" so to speak, and probably fairly limited for the time being, you'll probably end up paying similar prices no matter where you go. The S3 is a good seller and there are rarely enough to go around when a new model is first intro'd. You could probably get a good deal on a brand-new 07 tho'.... Good luck - no matter which one you get, you'll love it!

An out-of-state buyer fee? That's a new one to me.
You should pay $10,299 (limited production, and hot off the assembly line, like was stated, so expect to pay full retail anywhere you go) and then the freight and setup charges which shouldn't equal more than $600. So...$10,900 or less, then you'll have your tax and registration when you get back home, and you'll be on the road!

You'll like the '08. I just picked up an orange one myself.

I paid 8999 even (plus a grand in gear)for an 07 a month and a half ago, and since i was out of state I wasn't charged sales tax, though i did have to pay when i titled it. I have never heard of an out of state buyers fee, but thats something that may be local to your area.

Part of the problem is that I want a white one, which seem to be in short supply. I guess I'll wait until a better deal comes along. An $1100 surcharge seems a bit steep to me.

You are being robbed. Walk away.
Pick an '07 leftover. You're basically getting the same bike, discounted and with $1k in accessories...

What area are you in? I saw all 3 colors at my local dealer.

Total rip off. You are being fed a line of BS. Shop around and you will be surprised also might be a good way to find out which dealer to avoid in the future.

I think it is a bit harsh to conclude you are being "ripped off." Essentially the dealer has a white one and he thinks people want it more than you do. He can call it an "out of state buyers fee" or a "market adjustment" - the car dealer's favorite - or anything esle... but at the end of the day the MSRP is what is it - the manufacturer's SUGGESTED retail price. Dealers may attempt to sell bikes for much more than MSRP, and commonly do, when demand exceeds supply, or sell for much LESS than MSRP when supply exceeds demand.

This is basic economics and the way the world has been for thousands of years. You will have a hard time buying thqat $73,000 Ducati for list, too, or a Ferrari, etc.

So, if you do not like the deal, walk away. You should be able to find a Triumph you like from a dealer or private party you like at a price you like

Ripped off? I think not. To be truly ripped off by Triumph you'd have to move to the UK where a 2008 S3 will set you back £8000 on the road, about $15600 at current tourist exchange rates and then it'll cost you £1.10 ($2+) a LITRE for fuel. Thats around $9 a gallon.
