Hello All!

I have a newer (900 miles) '07 triple. Love the bike. Since about 200-300 miles or so, I have noticed what I think is gearbox chatter. It only happens above about 30mph regardless of gear or RPM. I cannot reproduce it by revving the engine at a stop. The chain is properly adjusted and I cannot find any loose or improperly adjusted things on the bike.

Any ideas?

Bike isn't even NEARLY broken in yet. Chill.

My 2007 has 13,000 miles on it. It made various noises of varying levels for quite awhile that came and went randomly....now it purrrrs PERFECTLY. It's new so you are paying extra special attention to everything.

Make sure the oil is VERY fresh and not overfilled. Without typing a two page report, trust me, don't overfill the engine with oil. Not catastrophic, but speedy (1050) doesn't like it.

And somehow I would just GUESS you "adjusted" the chain while off the bike? hhmmmm? If so, this is incorrect. When gauging the slack in the chain you must be fully seated in the bike....when you are on the bike the chain tightens and THIS is the appropriate time to measure slack. SSSA bikes tend to prefer a SLIGHTLY looser chain so if you are eying it based on previous standard swingarm bikes....time to recalibrate your eye method.

There is no chatter with the clutch pulled in, only with it out.

As far as the chain goes, it has never been adjusted. It still meets spec.

Are you on the power or coming off it? & is it noticeable when you are slowing up & changing down thru the gears ?

It seems fairly constant over a certain speed. When I power over that speed it starts, when I come off it stays until under that speed. I haven't noticed anything in the way of performance issues at all. The gear makes no difference.

Try tubing the chain. Mine makes a noise when the chain dries out.

ok new info. I was on a ride today and it only occurs when adding power in any gear above 30mph. Coming off the accelerator it goes away.

Have you whipped off the front sprocket cover to check the sprocket bolt?

Good news! It's Gone!

I changed the oil (since it was due) and also degreased/cleaned/oiled the chain. I went out for a quick test run and it's gone.
