radar detector

So I got pulled over recently, 80 in a 65 (Like a waste of time) But the kind state trooper only gave me a warniing. Now I'm looking at radar detectors. Anybody have one, how did you mount it. One of my Ducati riding friends has one with a heads up display for his helmet, very trick. Anyway, seeing if there are any good ideas out there. Appreciate the help.

Valentine V-1 velcro'd to a plate on a RAM mount, with a velcro strap around it as a safety. Haven't got around to the heads up display or bluetooth dongle yet, so it's kinda useless on the bike. It stays on at a buck-fifty, but you can't hear it...

Escort Passport is smaller & works well too, but I like the features of the Valentine better.

Bel RX65 hardwired into a relay fuse block. I mounted it on a techmount mount attached to the unused mirror hole on the lhs. I used to have it mounted with a ram mount but that was kind of bulky--techmount is much cleaner.

I've used a Valentine 1 for years with the Valentine audio adapter and helmet speakers. There was always an issue with the speaker cord or plug going bad.

Now I have the V1 mounted to my 2006 Tiger with a Ram magnetic mount and I'm using a "Visual Alert" from Aerostich so I no longer have to deal with headphone cords.

The "Visual Alert" http://www.aerostich.com/catalog/US/...t-p-17169.html has 5 extremely bright LEDs which are easy to notice , even when placed on the periphery of your vison. Works great!

Here's a photo...

WhatwWe need is an electronics whiz to find a way to modify the shift gauge on the instrument panel so people can use it as their detector readout.

I tried the legalspeeding H.A.R.D visual alert system. The receiver was too large to fit comfortably in my helmet so I velcroed it on the outside. The biggest issue was the use of a battery in the receiver. It takes a $3 2032 battery. If you forget to turn the receiver off it will kill the battery overnight.

The transmitter, which is powered by your bike battery, also had to be turned off after every ride by pulling its power cord or it would remain on with a bright led glowing.

To replace the battery in the receiver you have to remove the receiver from the helmet, pry it open and REMOVE THE EXPOSED CIRCUIT BOARD! The battery is mounted on the back side of the circuit board.

The wand with the LED on the end is soldered to the circuit board with little to no strain relief so it was only a matter of time before that connection was broken. It lasted about one year and was an inconvenience to use every day.

I have the Adaptive TPX Motorcycle Radar and Laser Detection system. Here is a link to their website. www.radarforbikes.com/

I don't think it is the best one out there but certainly one of the best for motorcycles. It has multiple mounting systems. It is easy to wire to your bike. You can get alerts through a wireless ear speaker or a super bright LED. I have the Chatterbox and chose to use that through an Audio Cord.
I cannot attest to whether it will save from being ticketed because so far, I haven't had a police officer radar me. But, I do know of others that have had their hides saved from this.

I like that radar for bikes site, but i already have a passport 8500. I was thinking about raising the instrument cluster a little so it would fit in between flyscreen and headlights. Am going to get a smartcord for it, so it might fit really well upside down. Cord controls i could mount on the "dash" the flyscreen uses. I do have a pretty good electronics guy and i will run the gear change thing by him. seems easy, though seems like i would have to open the case on the detector. Anyway, thanks for the advice, and keep it coming, will let you know what i come up with.

My opinion - Valentine 1, Escort 9500 or Escort 8500 x50

For the money, the 8500 X50 is a VERY good detector. I have one in my BMW and one in my truck as well. Saved my skin more than once!
