Gel Seat
I recently dropped my bike and scuffed the seat. I'm just looking at options for a new one, as insurance will hopefully pick up the tab. The deal is that the Gel seat is a little over half the price of a stock seat (Gel=$480NZ & Stock=$892NZ). Is the Gel better than stock??? I just need specifics on the Gel, not a Sargent or Corbin! They are not options at present.

Cheers in advance!

Gel Seat
Hi, I recently changed over to a gel seat (uk £140) - the latest version - I think this made have changed for '08 (the one with design stitching).

The feel is a little more squishy (if that is a word) but I can't honestly say that the ride/comfort isn't anything fantastically better - the surface is smoother and I find with leathers I move about a bit when accelerating & braking hard.

Having said that - the reason I got it was to add to the looks of the bike - vain I know, but with the stitching and different sections of pattern just makes it a considerably better looking seat - so I would go for it especially if the insurance is paying for it - hope that is of some help.

I have heard the gel seat is a waste of money. It isn't more comfortable over long rides and in fact, when it gets hot in warm weather, the thing is downright uncomfortable.

If you really want to customize your seat and make it more comfortable, do what I did for my cruiser, send the stock seat to Sargent. They rebuilt my stock seat with their foam, my choice of leather or synth covers, and piping color around the seat. And it is really reasonably priced. DO IT! You won't be sorry. Oh, and they sell one already made for the Triple if you like. I swear by their stuff

Just out of curiousity, where did you get a Sargent at that price? Ebay?

Thanks for that! I'd ruled out the Sargent option because my enquiry was forwarded to the Australia-NZ dealer. With their mark-up, it simply put the seat out of contention.
