I know technically the 2016 Speed Triple S is not a new model but a redesigned model with new electronics and rider aids etc. Is it something to err on the side of caution and wait for any bugs to be worked out after a couple years or would you get it anyway. I'm buying a Speed Triple at the end of June and have decided on either a leftover 2015 Speed Triple non R, dealers in my area are selling them at $9999.00 or a 2016 Speed Triple S for $10,499.00. I know that there's not much a difference in price between the two but wanted to get your thoughts and opinions on each model. Thanks for the feedback.:smile2:
I have a first year BMW R nineT. I've had no problems with it.
My wife leased a new Mercedes E300 last year. It has been a giant pain in the butt with numerous breakdowns and three recalls so far. At one point I couldn't shut it off. The engine would not stop running! I had to drive to the dealership to get them to do it.
I guess it depends on how much a new model has changed and how radical the changes are.
I haven't heard of anything significant on the '16. For that small difference in price I'd get the 16...easy decision. There are significant upgrades for not much more money.
I bought a 2016 and have zero issues to report. I've been active on the forums watching for anything regarding the '16+ models as well and have seen nothing negative to report. I think you'll be safe with it, the Speed Triple platform has been around a long time. For the difference in the prices you mentioned it's a no-brainer to me, go for the '16.
Thanks for the feedback fellas, that's good to hear, on some new or redesigned models it's usually a rule of thumb to give the model a couple years to work out any kinks. I want a '16' so it is good to know that it's doing so well, just have to decide on either Black or Red.
After hearing that the '16's are really solid, i'm going with the 2016 S3S, I would like to get the R model but the price is too much. I don't want to finance anymore than 10 grand, and i only have about $2500 to put down.
I have talked to guys that have said the pre 2016 was less involving than the 2016 and the seat on the 2016 is tilted a bit forward so if the new seat angle is agreeable I would get the new model. I think cburt traded a 2013 for a 2016 and i would be interested in hearing the differences from him.
